Please explain your schools policies for the care, welfare, STLS 19 K1 discipline and attendance of pupils, including the promotion of positive behaviour
Encourage children to be self-dependent and responsible.
Explain why rules exist and why children should do what you are asking. When children misbehave, explain why it is wrong. Encourage children to be responsible and follow through to completion. Encourage them to value their own and other cultural backgrounds. Do not use put downs or sarcasm. Give children activities that are challenging, but manageable. Give praise for effort, rather than achievement. Demonstrate that you value childrens work. Encourage children to express their feelings and thoughts and how they think of others. Provide children with their own things, labelled with their name. Give children opportunities to experiment with different roles i.e. leader, follower. Provide good role models, with regard to gender, ethnicity and disability. Stay on the childs side! Assume they meant to do the right thing rather than the wrong. Be interested in what they say, be an active listener. Do not laugh at a childs response unless it is meant to be funny. Avoid having favourites. Stimulate children with interesting questions that make them think.
