Independently, the students will use the given

materials to plant a seed and document their
observations with 90% accuracy.

The teacher will check the students observation sheets

every other day to make sure the students are
completing the work. Also, this will allow for a small
discussion one on one, teacher and student, regarding
their plant and its growth.

KWL chart. The student will complete the KWL chart for
the teacher to get a feel for what the students know,
want to know, and and later, have learned.
After the students have created their KWL charts the
teacher will read the students Food from Farms by Acorn
so the students can learn the different crops on a farm
and how they are grown.
Modeling of the Concept
Prior to beginning the lesson, the teacher will grow a
seed at home while also filling out an observation sheet.

This will give the students model of what their

observation sheet should look like as well as what the
end result will be for their seed.
Guiding the Practice
The teacher will walk around and help the student plant
their seeds.
Also, every other day the teacher will remind the
students to observe their seed to complete that days
observation square on their sheet.
Providing the Independent Practice
The students will be planting and observing their own
seed. Their observation sheets will only be for just their
plant. The teachers model will serve as a rubric because
they will have a completed example to base their work
off of.
