Site Survey Form

DRASTIC

(P2P)

Purpose and IMPORTANT note:
The purpose of this Wireless Network Site Survey form (Point to Point) is to ensure that there is
good coordination between those who specify and those who install your systems. The more known
and controllable the installation environment is, the fewer opportunities there are for unwelcome and
potentially serious difficulties to arise. Please Note that where DRASTIC has not been able to
survey the installation site themselves, all their decisions prior to installation will be made solely on
the information given. DRASTIC cannot be responsible for the failure of an installation due if actual
site data is materially different from that given. Such material differences may cause additional
costs, which the customer will have to bear. Customers who are completing their own survey
should therefore ensure the completeness and accuracy of the information provided.

so long as the guy wires do not themselves obstruct the signal. In order to be able to calculate the heights of the masts (mast 1. This means that if they are tower mounted. poles or buildings. 2. or even stop the link working altogether. The type of obstacle (e. The distance of these significant obstacles from the base station. Towers may be guyed. trees will grow. Required equipment: GPS (Global Positioning System) DRASTIC VSAT Site Survey FormP2P v.) The antennas and electronics can be mounted on towers.1 August 2005 Page . we must collect some accurate measurements about the intended link: 1.DRASTIC Wireless Network Site Survey Form (P2P) Principles To achieve best performance on a point to point link. The height of the highest significant obstacles between the base and remote sites (altitude at site + height above terrain) (Height C) 4. there must be room either to hinge the tower down level with the ground. The distance between the base and remote sites (Distance A) 3. Radio signals do not travel like a piece of rope between these points. the radio signal between the base and the remote stations must be unimpeded. These should be accessible for maintenance and adjustment (especially at the remote end). so we have to allow more clearance. or they must be sufficiently strongly supported to allow a person to ascend them. so multiple obstructions can severely restrict the signal. but rather like two inverted cones. This is additive. ANY obstacles sticking into the “cone” will cause signal loss. (Distance B) 5.

Decimal degrees e. Be clear about what units of measure you are using. Plot the data on the diagrams in this form. 3. store this position.
