Applicants must also provide letters of support from key community partners, such as school
officials, district attorneys, advocacy groups, and planning departments, to demonstrate
commitment from a broad coalition.
In exchange for these efforts, participating communities receive safety materials, enforcement
training, support, and technical assistance from the program throughout the year.
Communities are also recognized for their efforts to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. To

The University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center is working closely with
NCDOT to provide technical assistance and support with program implementation. Learn
