For reading,
we would like
Edwin to be
able to retell
a story to use
and be able
to tell about
key details in
a story.

RL.1.1 Ask
and answer
questions
about key
details in a
text.

Students story retellings

should be coherent and
well organized and should
include the big ideas and
important details
(Tompkins, 2014, pg.277).

For writing,
we would like
Edwin to be
able to write
about a main
idea, provide
details about
it, and
organize it.

W.1.2 Write
informative/
explanatory
texts in which
they name a
topic, supply
some facts
about the
topic, and
provide some
sense of
closure.

Students need to know

how to organize their
writing and learn ways to
make their structure clear
and logical for readers.
(Tompkins, 2014, pg. 58)

For word
study, we
would like to
see Edwin
master the
first 2 sets of
sight words/
highfrequency

RF.L.3c Read
common highfrequency
words by
sight.

Teachers check students

knowledge of highfrequency words and their
ability to use wordidentification strategies to
decode other words in
grade level texts,
(Tompkins, 2014, pg. 194).

RL.1.2 Retell
stories,
including key
details, and
demonstrate
understandin
g of their
central
message or
lesson.

Edwin really struggles

with being able to
remember what happened
in a story and it affects
any activities that we do
after we read the story.
We hope to help him find
ways to really focus on the
story and remember it.

Edwin has a hard time

coming up with details
about any topic. He also
struggles with making and
organizing sentences. We
will be using graphic
organizers to help him
with this.

Edwin struggles with

reading a lot of books that

words.

are on his level because

they have lots of highfrequency and sight
words. Using flashcards,
we hope he masters some
of them.
