Classroom Learning Profile based on observations and data

Use readings and EDUC 202 self-reflection assignments from the past to describe your placement class:
Nieto & Bode; Understanding Culture Brief; Hoeksema; Pearson 202 custom textbook; Barringer, Pohlman, & Robinson
I would say that their culture is white and non-diverse. It is also a Christian culture where every day
starts and ends with the Lord. They are eager to learn and talk about God.
Culture

Race & Ethnicity

Only one student in the class of twenty appears to non-white. The student is from Poland and was
adopted a year and a half ago.

Social SystemsPeers & Family

I believe that these students are in the middle class system. They come to school with the correct
clothes for the weather. They have prepared lunches that they brought or they have the option to get a
hot lunch.

This is a Christian elementary school. The students talk about God openly and are encouraged. I
believe that their faith and spiritual developments are being strengthened because of this.

My teacher has these brain squishy, stress balls that she lets students have while they are working.
They can focus on squeezing it if they notice they are losing interest, which I have noticed students
doing. The students have a memory verse that they learn and either recite or write it out. I graded one
before and noticed that some had a little trouble remembering the words.

All but one of the students are native English speakers. One girl is from Poland so she knows a little
bit of Polish. My teacher told me though that she is losing her Polish though as she is trying hard to
learn English. She has a good grasp of the language and I can hardly tell that English isnt her first
language.

The students all appear to know where they are supposed to stand in line or sit in their rows on the
carpet. They sit in their chairs with ease, although at times where they have been sitting for a long time
they start to wiggle but not enough to fall out of the chairs. Each student has either one or multiple
pencil grippers on their pencils. These help with their pencil grasp and fine motor skills. They appear
to have good fine motor skills.

Higher Order Thinking

The students have multiple options to analyze, evaluate, create, apply, understand and remember
information that they have learned. They have the opportunity to create written pieces. They apply and
connect specific moments from books read to their lives.

There are a couple of students who get called out into breakout groups. One student gets pulled out
more than others, to help him catch up. These groups either work on reading, writing, fluency or teach
English. None of the students have a physical ability that I know of.
