Dear Sir / Madam/ Hiring Committee:
I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies at Kennesaw State University, and applying for the
Sustainable Analyst intern position at your company, Sustainable Investment Group which was posted on the KSU
Career Services website.
My degree was designed to take courses from different departments: Geography, Culinary Sustainability &
Hospitality, Biology, Environmental and American Studies, all with a common and cohesive focus on sustainability in a
local and global world. These classes provided me with ample knowledge of industry practices, world standards and
LEED principles. I've traveled and studied internationally in China, focusing on geography, in Europe, examining the
geography of beer, and in Mid-Wales, participating in a Permaculture Design Course, while observing the different
sustainable practices and how they vary from place to place.
I have worked for four years in a pizzeria, as dishwasher, cook, and then manager, working from the bottom up
being able to understand and appreciate the system from each distinct perspective. While also working independently
doing routine lawn maintenance for a medical office complex. Along with my studies, work has been a place where I have
been able to stand out and set myself apart by taking initiative, showing extreme competence and having an unmatched
work ethic. One notable achievement at the pizzeria associated with sustainability was to put in place a dough up-cycle
mandate, which has created savings in cost, time and minimizes waste.
I have a driving passion for all things sustainable ,and a love for everything and anything involved with growing
food properly. But anyone can let nature take control and reap the benefits by growing food sustainably. The real
challenge is integrating sustainable practices into urban living, since over fifty percent of the world's population live in
cities today and continues to grow. In developed countries about forty percent of the total energy consumption is
consumed by buildings. The importance of the LEED principles and standards is that they can help lower energy
consumption by applying sustainable, ethical construction and management practices to new and existing buildings.
These are concepts and principles with which I personally align with and wish to continue studying and to get the
opportunity to apply in a working atmosphere.
I believe my experience in the world, leadership in my work and personal life, and the persistence in, and
dedication to my studies has greatly enhances my marketability and confidence. My hope is that given a chance to work
with Sustainable Investment Group as an Intern I will provide quality work and produce tangible result, while being able
to gain further insight into an industry and a company that is ready to help design for the future.
Sincerely,
Seth Hoover
