Unit 2-Job Packet

I would like to give insight to the positions I found that I believe I would excel at after
graduation and that would help to benefit my future. First I found an organization called Select
Trees. The position open for applicants is a Sales Associate. Although this is not necessarily a
position I would see myself doing for the rest of my life, I feel as though my past experience
with customer service would give me an edge over other applicants that may not have as much
experience with people interaction. As I have not had much job experience in Natural
Resources, I think this job position would give me a nice balance of doing something I already
feel comfortable in doing in a workplace and also learning to apply my education in a job. This
could allow me to have better opportunities in the future.
Next, I found the job position, Forestry Technician, with the U.S.D.A Forest Service. I believe
this is a job that I could see myself doing for a while. It would really be a job that would allow
me to use my education in Natural Resources in my daily work.
The City of Montgomery, AL and Recreation Department posted the next job position I found. It
is called an Outdoor Recreation Specialist. I feel like this job would be one I would enjoy going
to everyday. This position falls under Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism. I would love
to work with people, manage recreation programs and community centers. I have the
background working with people that could help me bring more success to the organization.
The fourth position I found is an Outreach Forester posted by the Oscoda Conservation District.
I think this would be a fun combination of Forestry and Natural Resources Recreation and
Tourism. Once again, I enjoy working with people, and being able to plan and give people
knowledge on things that could help them in the future would give me great joy everyday.
Finally, the position I tailored my resume and cover letter to was posted by American
YouthWorks. The position is for a Coastal Restoration Field Coordinator. After doing some
research, I found that this company has done a lot of great projects in the past that would really
be great to be a part of in the future. I would love to work with young people to help them learn
in a hands-on way, because I believe that is the best way to develop skills that they could use. I
also have a desire to help people, especially when disaster strikes. My hometown, Minot, ND,
had a devastating flood in 2011. Being able to see this flood has given me insight on just how
destructive natural disasters can be to a community and its environment.

Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks and Select Trees have some similarities but
are very different in their areas they focus on and their overall mission statements. American
YouthWorks is more focused directly on helping young people get the hands-on training that will
help provide them with more opportunities in the future and helping communities in time of
disaster. Select trees, however, focuses on the growth of their business providing trees to all
parts of communities. Neither organization is new. To me, this means they are both successful
in what they do and how they contribute to the environment and society.
If I were to apply to both companies, I would have to tailor my resume and cover letter according
to the business mission statements, values, and goals. My resume and cover letter enclosed is
tailored to the Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks. I would have to change my
cover letter to be directed to the specific position if I were to apply to Select Trees instead. Both
positions involve a lot of work with people, so I would keep some of my focus on my people
skills that I have obtained through past jobs, but change certain key words that would help
accommodate to the job posting.

My Qualifications

Education
Bachelors degree in
environmental
science or related
field of study.
Bachelors degree in
Natural Resources
Management.

Experience
2 years of related
work experience
Experience in leading

I will have related

Have a bit of leading
a team through past
jobs.

I believe that involvement in any of these organizations would greatly benefit my ability to get
future jobs as well as boost my self confidence in my abilities within a related field of study. The
Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks is an organization that does a lot to help the
youth and society as a whole, so I believe that would look great to add onto a resume in the
future. It would look good to future employers to see that I worked for a company that is
focused on creating positive outcomes for other people, not just focusing on the size of the profit.
I would be able to focus on the experience I have gained from them, and apply that to new
situations.

Dear Ms. Alcozer:
I am applying for the Coastal Restoration Field Coordinator position with the Texas
Conservation Corps that was posted on the University of Georgia website. My eagerness to
apply stems from my interest and qualifications in Natural Resources Management.
I believe that my education combined with my determination to learn and grow as a professional
would make me a great attribute to the team. This position excites me because of the great work
it has done in the past, and I would love to be a part of the projects to come in the future. I will
receive my bachelors degree in Natural Resources Management from North Dakota State
University in May that will greatly heighten my knowledge and skills involved in this position.
My professors have pushed me to think in different ways and have held me to a high standard for
the past four years. I have made connections with professionals within this field that I continue
to look up to and learn from.
I would love to take some time with you to go more in depth about some of the reasons I would
