Lesson Title: Taking Care of Myself: Morning Routines

General Characteristics:
10 students
6 Males; 4 Females
The students ages range from 5 to 7.5 years old
Family Background: Lower/ Middle Class
Ethnicity: Caucasian, African American, Latino
Mental, Social, Physical, Social Notes:
- There is one student with Autism, she can learn easily but struggles
interacting with others.
- There are two students who struggle with controlling their anger. One of the
students can learn quickly but also gets very frustrated and overwhelmed
which leads to anger outbursts. The other student has a hard time staying
focused and when he cant stay on task he acts out in negative ways, he has
also been diagnosed with ADHD.
- 5 of the students are LD, which means they have learning disabilities. This
term means that the student has a problem learning in one or more areas
caused by brain dysfunction, other disabilities, a brain injury, or even
developmental aphasia (lack of language abilities).
- 2 students are considered to have multiple disabilities. That is, these students
have two or more disabilities, often a combination of physical and mental
challenges.
Entry Competencies:
Students usually know some parts of the basic life skills, they need help grasping the
different concepts and actually acting out the different actions needed. They know
what brushing their teeth and putting on clothes is, they just dont know how to act
out those actions in their own life without assistance.
Students in this classroom are here to learn a strong foundation, they dont
necessarily have one coming into the classroom.
Learning Styles:
Different learning styles in the classroom include: Visual, Auditory, lots of hands on
activities.
Students with Special needs, ranging from 5-7.5 usually learn best through with
technology when its presented as visuals, song and dance, videos, interactive
games, things they can actually picture/see/and hear. It is important for them to make

connections and interactions.

This lesson lends itself to both teacher and student-centered strategies.
Teacher centered strategies
o On Day 1 to 4, I will use the Prezi, YouTube, and songs throughout this lesson
to present and explain different types of morning routines using various
examples.
Student centered strategies
o On Day 1, students will play around with fun worksheets on basic life skills to

see how well they know the different steps to morning routines.
o On Day 2-3, students will be given opportunities to watch videos (YouTube)
o On Day 4, students will reflect on their learning by acting out the different
morning routines with the assistance from others
o On Day 5, students will practice the difference morning routines and see how
well they can do them on their own.

YouTube videos selected are appropriate for kindergarten second
grade children.

visuals to gain their attention

to understand, and loads quickly on computers or mobile devices

The teacher needs prepare the powerpoint presentation, basic life skill worksheets,
and find online games that pertain the basic life schools.
The teacher needs to get toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, shoe laces, dolls, and a
kitchen set

The lesson will take place in the classroom. Each IPad needs to be checked to
ensure that Internet is working to play the videos and games.
Prepare the Learners
To prepare students, the teacher will have to introduce the lesson and review the
learning objectives. Each student will be given the matching cards to review the
different life skills.
Prepare the Learning Experience

The prezi will be used to show visuals and have the students connect the different
images of the life skills in a form of steps.

Matching Cards will allow the students to play and review their understanding of the
different life skills..
I will explain how the different routines pertain their lifes and when they should go
about the routines/
I will give several examples of how accurately act out the different routines
I will help students act out the routines and help them understand the objectives. I
will also encourage them to try to do it on their own to practice independence.

This lesson starts of by introducing the different routines but it doesnt go into depth just yet.
This lesson is meant to introduce the objective to the students.
Day 1:
Warm Up:
Students will use the basic life skills worksheets to show their basic knowledge of the
different morning routines.
Lesson:
I will use PowerPoint to show different morning routines and images to connect the
actions to real life.
Activity:
We will then name different morning routines as a class. I will put all of the different
ideas on the board. I will allow the students to share how they think the routines are
acted out.
Day 2:
Warm Up:
The students and I will join together on the warm-up rug to learn a song on morning
routines. The students will eventually sing-a-long.

Lesson:
I will show a Prezi on the different steps of morning routines.
Activity:
We will watch two videos, one will teach the students how to properly brush their
teeth, and the other will teach them how to properly get dressed.

Day 3:
Warm Up:
I will allow the students to work in groups of two. Each group will get a set of the
matching cards. The students will try to match the cards correctly. For example a
toothbrush would be matched with clean teeth, a hair brush would be match with
brushed hair, ectBy being in partners the students can help and learn from each
other. This also promotes positive interactions.

Activity:
I will then play a video about cleaning up

After we watch the video, I will create a mess in the classroom and have the
children clean it up.
Day 4:
Warm Up:
I will ask students to pick one of the morning routines to act out for the class. Each
student will have the opportunity to show the class how to act out a routine.
Lesson:
I will demonstrate how to play different online games. One game is on brushing teeth
and the other is cleaning yourself.

Activity:
Students will practice their understanding of the skills by using the online games.
Day 5:
Warm Up:
I will have different centers set up for the students to go around the room and act out
the different morning routines. One will be for brushing teeth, one will be for putting
on clothes, one will be for brushing hair, one will be for tying shoes, and one will be
for cleaning up.
Lesson:
I will demonstrate how to act out different routines to refresh their memories.

Activity:
Students will reflect by sharing their understanding of the different routines and when
they are done and how they are administered.

Revision
At the end of each day, I will write notes to keep track of any lesson, activities, or
materials that need to be revised for the future. I will also have a separate note book
to write down the actions of each individual child and how they are progressing.
