1. Write the synopsis of "Letter to the young Women of Malolos".

The letter of Rizal to the young women of Malolos was made possible through the request of
Marcelo H. Del Pilar who was then writing in Barcelona who was informed about the actions of
the 20 young women of Malolos who asked for permission to open a “night school” from which
they can learn Spanish. Rizal, although busy penned the famous letter. The letter mainly
consisted of his commendations to the young women, the status of Filipino women in the
Philippines, what causes the status to remain, what is the role of Filipino women in future of the
nation, and what should the Filipino women possess and what should they teach to their children.
These points written by Rizal were intended to be advice for these brave women seeking
knowledge and education.
2. What influence Rizal to write them a letter?
Rizal was influenced by Marcelo H. Del Pilar who told him the of the actions of brave
women in petitioning for a “night school” that taught Spanish which was something
extraordinary during their time because women were not allowed to study at all. Though Rizal
busy in annotating Morga’s book still penned the letter which I think is also because he sees the
same zeal in those women as his which is the love of education.
3. What was his message?
The message of Rizal consisted of these main points: Filipino mothers should teach their
children love of God, country and fellowmen, Filipino mothers should be glad and honored, like
Spartan mothers, to offer their sons in defense of their country, Filipino women should know
how to protect their dignity and honor, Filipino women should educate themselves aside from
retaining their good racial values, Faith is not merely reciting prayers and wearing religious
pictures. It is living the real Christian way with good morals and manners.
