SOL 3.5 Living Systems- The student will investigate and understand relationships among
organisms in aquatic and terrestrial food chains. Key concepts include
a) producer, consumer, decomposer;
b) herbivore, carnivore, omnivore; and
c) predator and prey.
This tool can be used to show a food chain by naming the bubbles the animals and
have them go in a circle. Additionally, the bubbles can be connected to and go
around their habitat in the center bubble. Also, the student can name whether it is a
producer, consumer, decomposer; whether it is a herbivore, carnivore, omnivore;
and whether it is a predator or prey.
There are several positives for this tool. One being that it is easy to organize research or
ideas with the map. Also, this tool has many different options for design choice. Another
positive is that the tool allows the creator to continue adding more information and it can
go deeper and deeper into one certain bubble. Also, this tool gives a link to the page that
the person created so they can share it without giving login information. Also, there are a
couple challenges with using this tool. One challenge is that the website is slightly
confusing to use at first because there are no direct instructions. Another negative is that the
bubble map design on the website is the only practical tool to use because the other options
are hard to use. Also, this tool does not allow the creator to change the size or shape of the
bubbles.
