‘A major focus in the second grade math program is fact fluency
(addition and subtraction facts to 20). Students are required to
mentally add and subtract to 20.
Within a classroom there is a wide range of mastery of these facts.
In Mrs, Moskaluk’s class the students have been grouped in 3
levels. Today i worked with students in the hall practicing their
math facts.
| continued to work with a few students practicing their spelling
and writing.
‘The kids vary in their math skills. Some students know all of the
facts while others knew barley any. Mrs. Moskaluk regularly uses
parent volunteers in her class room. Before they start they are asked
to sign a parent code of conduct. How would you enforce if a
parent broke this code?Site Visit Notes

Mrs. Moskaluk showed the class a wordless picture book
introducing the the concept of using illustrations to gain meaning
from a story. The students worked in groups to explain what
happened in a wordless picture book.
‘The students leamed how to gain more understanding by using both
text and illustrations.
Today | gave a group of children a spelling test while Mrs.
‘Moskaluk worked with another group of children on their reading.
Later during the day, the students started to work on “daily 5”
where I assisted a few students with their spelling errors,
‘Mrs. Moskaluk’s class room was incredibly well behaved and
rarely had to be asked twice to do something or listen. A few
students struggle in her class room, but with a little additional help
during the year they will be at the same academic level as the other
students! Is there someone specific who can help students who
struggle in certain subjects? What can be done to assist their
academic level?Visit Notes
