Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: MGSE2.OA.3 Determine
whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g.,
by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even
number as a sum of two equal addends.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what
will students and teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it
take to complete? What audience will use/care about the multimedia projects
students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be
assessed and by whom? Who will provide feedback to students about their work?
(Overview should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs)
Teacher will demonstrate podcast and how it can be useful when doing your work,
students will use the demonstrated audio as a basis as to what theirs might be like.
Students will create their own podcast using Audacity with the guidance of their
peers and from the teacher.
Students are to create a podcast that is 45-60 seconds long, with intro and outros.
Through this process, the teacher will be assisting students throughout the process of
using Audacity and editing. The teacher will also assist in researching when needed.
Students will post their podcast onto the class blog and will invite others to view it.
Students will receive feedback from the teacher, administration, parents, and more
who view their podcast. The feedback will be individual for each student and the
teacher will assess the students based on an already established rubric for this
assignment.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson
be and Why? This lesson would be a LoTi 4 or even 5 because the students are
taking on a role of a professional and creating a product while in that role. Their work
will be viewed by people outside of the classroom and their information will be
influenced based on the speaker. This will make learning more engaging and
meaningful as students will be learning new information, a new software, and they
will use technology to create and share a product they value.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to
the project? Could the project be completed without this technology? What would be
lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are going to be used in
the learning experience?
This activity could not be accomplished without technology technically. The closest
that students could come to this without the use of Audacity is by just recording
themselves talk into a voice recorded (that, if were being honest, theyre probably
never seen. They would be losing a valuable opportunity to learn technological skill
sets and the ability to create their own product. They could still talk about their
subject, but they wouldnt be able to create a product like this one, and they would
take away the authenticity of learning with technology.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues
surrounding internet safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing
this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to students/yourself,
alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet
Safety/Use Policy.
Informing and consulting with administration and parent is key in planning this
activity, and others like it. Keeping communication with parents and administration
about the expectations of the activity and how it is beneficial to the students, as well
as, the expectations for safety and privacy is key to making sure that this activity
