Welcome
Self Introduction
Focus of the Day: Today we will learn the basic
skills and defensive tactics of water basketball, ,
and participate in a water basketball modified
game.
Signals: Go- Ready Go
Stop- Whistle
Safety: Since we are in the pool we must
heavily focus on safety. There are a few things
that I need everyone to be cautious of while we
are in and around the pool. First, absolutely no
running, I do not want anyone to slip and get
hurt. Next, no horseplay in or around the pool.
This includes dunking and pushing your friends.
No diving into the shallow end, or jumping into
the shallow end, we get into the pool through
the stairs. Remember we are here to have fun,
not to get hurt, if I see anyone disobeying these
rules, you will get a warning, then you will be
asked to sit out for the rest of class if you break
the rule again.
Informing Water Basketball O/D Strategies
In water basketball offensive and defensive
strategies can change up a whole game. If a
team is playing using offensive strategies they
will most likely have the upper hand. If a team
does not have any sort of defensive strategy
they will likely have a disadvantage because
there will not any sort of defense to take on the
offense.
Refining Offensive Strategies
1. Move off the ball, do not stand
still
2. Pass to open players
3. Shoot when you have an open
shot.

guard that zone
2. Person-Person Defense

other type of defense?
Demonstration:
I will ask a couple students to help me
demonstrate the zone and man defense
Refining Rules of Water Basketball
Students will get into their teams and play a
game of water basketball.
The rules of water basketball include:
1. You cannot walk when you have
the ball, you must stay still until you

3. You may not hold onto the ball for
more than 10 seconds.

pool in groups

will only be 2 teams allowed to play at once,
teams will be playing 5 minute games. When

be talking about defensive strategies and
offensive strategies in order to critically think
and apply strategy to the game.
Transition: Teams 1 and 2 will exit the pool,
teams 3 and 4 will go into the pool and have 1
minute to get ready to play.
