32-33 Philosophy

“Short Trap” Family
•32-33 is the fastest of our “FASTBALL” plays that are designed to separate the defense and hit quickly! It depends on TEMPO! •The Slant Trap is good when linemen are coming upfield, when LB are reacting laterally to our wider, “Read Tempo” plays, and any time we can create a 5-man box through formation! •This play has the potential to hit big IF linemen take correct courses, get quick movement at the point of attack, and the ball-carrier makes one cut to daylight and runs as though shot out of a cannon! •Against ODD defenses, we like to help our angles and attack aggressive LB by using a ‘WRAP’ call in which the Frontside linemen PASS SET BASE and the Trapping BS Guard ‘Wraps’ up into the hole and traps the FS LB!

32-33 “Trap”

KEYS to a successful play:
•Frontside linemen Rip through down men to an OVER and UP course to LBs! We must get hats on filling/run-through LBs! •BSG takes a course INTO the line, arrives at P.O.A. with low pads, and works his butt out of the hole by finishing with his FEET! •We get movement on the Nose v. any type of Odd look

*Basic idea is to work inside gap up to nearest LB, leaving the first Frontside Defensive Lineman alone! alone *My first step is a POWER step to my inside gap; I will RIP ; through any head up or outside technique on me to get there! *I take an “Over and Up” course to the nearest LB, not letting , him run under me to the ball carrier! *Guards & Centers should block Middle/Backside LB; Tackles & LB; TE should block Frontside LB! LB!

FS T: Short trap rules. ‘Wrap’ call tells you to Pass set base if covered. FS G: Short trap rules, Combo Nose to BSLB if you get a ‘Nose’ call from Center. Can call ‘Wrap’ v. an Odd look. CENTER: If uncovered OR covered with a 3 technique behind you, Dead block back to 1st BS DL. If covered, make a ‘Nose’ call to FSG, COMBO the Nose to BSLB, must get movement!

FS Outs: FS Ins: BS TE: BS Outs: BS Ins:

BS G: Use a CUT step to pull and trap the first down lineman on the opposite side. Short drop step, keep your weight forward, pull into the line…landmark is center’s ribcage if C is uncovered, landmark is his hip if he’s covered. BS T: “Punch” block…cut your split & step FLAT inside “Punch” QB: Quick two step backpedal, try and make brief eye to stop B gap penetration. If a DL from either direction or contact with FSLB, turn and seat ball to RB. Set up for pass stunting LB shows in that gap, lock & cut him. If nothing after exchange. *On ‘H’ run Stretch course to handoff. R: Automatic “Soft” or “Strong” alignment away from the shows, ¼ turn back to pick off the E.M.O.L. *If the man you’re punching is the only DL on your side (Odd play (32-Soft, 33-Strong), 4 1/2 to 5 yards deep. Accelerate looks, usually), give the Center a ‘TAKE IT’ call pre-snap! immediately on same angle as trapper, staying inside him. Run read is FSLB! SEE him and match the trapper’s angle so you can break off him!. This is a FASTBALL play!
