Dear Lincoln Families:

Student and staff safety is our number one priority. Over the past few months, the Wauwatosa School District, local private
and parochial schools, and local law enforcement and safety agencies have convened to evaluate our current practices
related to school safety.
Run, Hide, Fight is supported by the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal
Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Run, Hide, Fight is an intruder response plan
where staff and students assess the situation and respond on which option is best. As the name implies, if a violent intruder
comes into a school, the response could be to run to a safe place, or hide in a locked area, or attempt to stop the intruder (as
a last resort) with items found in the school.
Over the past week, the staff has been trained on the components of Run, Hide, Fight. In classrooms, we teach Four
S.T.E.P.s to Remember for the lockdown procedure: Shut and lock your door(s), Turn off the lights, Everyone move to a
safe part of the room and Patiently and quietly listen for directions. Today, students and staff have practiced a lockdown drill
and have discussed the options of Run, Hide, Fight, as appropriate with the developmental age of the students.
Additionally, as part of school safety, we want to thank our Lincoln family community for participating in our soft start school
procedures. These procedures help us ensure safety by having students enter the building to head straight to their
classrooms for learning and all visiting adults check-in to the office by entering on the Warren Avenue door. Our breezeway
door and Warren Ave. door are open for Soft Start from 8:05-8:15am.
With cooler temperatures around the corner, we also want our families to clearly communicate with families, friends, and
daycare facilities about the responsibility of student pick-up as close to 3:20 pm (2:20 p.m on Wednesdays) as possible. All
students must check in with an adult contact immediately after dismissal as we do not have any after school supervision.
We truly thank you for your support. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with questions. I can be reached at

Sincerely,
