Their design method is diverse and multifaceted, inspired by Curiosity and strengthened by
underlying principles of Integrity, Innovation, and Excellence. They strive to create buildings
that transcend function, transform places, and improve peoples lives. They foster collaborative
inquiry, exploration, healthy debate and a synthesis of ideas shared by clients, designers, and

knowledge, enrich our practice, and promote design excellence.
They also explore the relationship between the philosophy and the architectural design. They
have said that older complex envelope systems require in-depth architectural wisdom, innovative
thinking, and up-to-date building science knowledge to find the most practical and cost effective
solutions.
The
Emera
Oval
Owner: Halifax Regional Municipality Completion: 2015

Pavilion

The Emera Oval Pavilion is built at the focal point of a huge social goal inside the Halifax
Regional Municipality. The plan mirrors the significance of the site as a get-together place for
the oval and the more extensive Halifax Commons, and the need to give administrations
particular to the Emera Oval.
The building has been divided into two automatic pieces by a way, isolating the procedure side
from the more open and liquid open side. Separating the parts into two, saves the visual and
physical associations between the recreation center space and the oval square. The rooftop glides
over these two structures, covering both indoor and outside space, making an expansive shielded
range from the components.
The wood clad rooftop overlays up from the middle, tending to both the hall and the oval, then
decreases towards the edges. This minimizes its profile and visual effect, while making a feeling
of daintiness inside a recreation center setting. The light way of the rooftop is adjusted by the
two strong masses clad in block to compare to the municipal way of close-by historic points.
The structure is intended to be adaptable, so it can change its program all through the seasons,
while giving an abnormal state of enhancement to hall and oval clients consistently. The structure
guarantees the proceeded with achievement of the zone as a recreational goal inside the city.

The

DAL

IDEA

Building

Project

The project I worked on the Dalhousie University IDEA BUILDING PROJECT. Dalhousie
University is set to transform its downtown Sexton Campus with the introduction of two new
academic structure called the IDEA (Innovation Design in Engineering & Architecture) Building
Project. This initiative will create the first newly constructed academic buildings on Sexton
Campus since the university merged with the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) in
1997.
The Universitys goals include providing modern space for students to learn the art of design
through hands-on experience, and increasing interaction and collaboration between students in
the Faculties of Engineering, and Architecture & Planning.
The design themes have revised and evolved the previous concept proposal into a schematic
design centered on three main design themes: Urbanism, Efficiency, and Contemporary Design.
In the case of urbanism design, both the Innovation and Design Building enhance their respective
urban contexts through a considered approach to building form. For example, the interior of the
Design Building is defined by the Auditorium volume at ground level. The main entry and lobby
will be directly accessed from a renewed and enhanced existing south-facing terrace along
Morroy Building.
During warmer summer, students will be able to provide a sense of life and activity to Morris
Street. The IDEA project will introduce bold, contemporary forms to Sexton Campus signaling
renewal and innovative design to not only the Dalhousie community but also the City of Halifax
and the Atlantic Region as a whole.
The project budget for the IDEA Building has grown into a massive $64-million investments. Its
schedule goal is to achieve readiness for student classes at the start of the 2018 fall academic
year. This also coincides with Dalhousies notable 200th anniversary celebrations.
