Digital Video
Hardware

Digital Video Hardware includes a computer, video camera(s),


microphone, tripod, and lights.

Video Editing
Software

Video Editing Software is the process of capturing videos from the


camera media and imports it into the editing software. It also
manipulates video footage and adds the desired effects to convey
the intended message.
*Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and Moviemaker

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds is mentally dividing the frame into thirds.

Points of interest: where the 1/3 lines intersect
*4 places where the subject should be placed; sometimes
the subject occupies 2/3 of the image, but not often.
Horizon Lines: Follow either the lower 1/3 line or the upper
1/3 line, and eyes should always be on or near the upper 1/3
line.

Establishing Shot

Establishing Shot is a process that sets up a context for the scene


by showing the subject(s) and their environment relationship.

Wide Shot

Wide Shot shows the subject and its location/environment in its


entirety.

Extreme Wide
Shot

Extreme Wide Shot is used to show the subject and its environment
from a longer distance than a wide shot.

Medium Shot

Medium Shot shows a part of the subject, but with more detail of
the location/environment.
*framing a subject from waist up

Close-Up Shot

Close-Up Shot shows a particular part of a subject with more detail.


*framing a subject from shoulders up

Extreme Close-Up
Shot

Extreme Close-Up Shot shows a particular part of a subject with


extreme detail.

High Angle Shot

High Angle Shot is when the position of the camera is above normal
eye-level compared to the subject.
Effect: Makes the subject to seem small, weak, inferior, or scared.

Low Angle Shot

Low Angle Shot is when the position of the camera is below normal
eye-level compared to the subject.
Effect: Makes the subject to seem tall, powerful, dominating, or
scary.

Zoom

Zoom uses the cameras lens mechanics to make the subject to


appear closer or further away.
*Cameras physical location does not change.

Pan

Pan is positioned horizontally to pivot the camera left or right.


*Cameras physical location does not change.

Tilt

Tilt is positioned vertically to pivot the camera up or down.


*Cameras physical location does not change.

Dolly

Dolly is the physical movement of the camera that moves toward


or away from the subject.

Truck

Truck is the physical movement of the camera that moves


horizontally.

Crane

Crane is the physical movement of the camera that moves


vertically.

Focus

Focus is the adjustment of the lens settings of the camera to make


the subjects footage clear.

White Balance

White balance is the adjustment of the color settings of the camera


to match true white.
*Colors become balanced

Iris

Iris is the adjustment of the lens settings of the camera to allow the
appropriate amount of light into the camera.
