1 Definitions
The terms specific to weight and balance are as follows:

Basic Weight (BW)

Operational Empty Weight
(OEW)
Weight of the aeroplane comprising of:
- Airframe
- Power plant
- Fixed equipment
- Standard technical equipment
- All fluids exclusive indicated usable fuel and potable water
- Aircraft load restraint system
- Version equipment (passenger seats, etc.)
- Cabin equipment
- Life saving equipment
- Navigation equipment
- Ships papers
Centre of Gravity (C of G) The MAC (%) is defined as the percentage of the length of the
Mean Aerodynamic Chord (calculated from the leading edge) to
indicate the aircraft centre of gravity.
Dry Operating Index (DOI) Index indicating the position of Center of Gravity at the Dry
Operating Weight.
Dry Operating Weight (DOW) The total weight of the aircraft ready for a specific type of
operation excluding all usable fuel and traffic weight.
Operational Empty/Basic Weight plus items specific to the type
of flight i.e. catering, pantry, potable water, equipment, news
paper, extra crew etc.
Equipment in Compartment
(EIC)
Company-mail
Extra pantry in belly
Extra technical equipment
Landing Weight (LW) The landing weight of the aircraft at the destination aerodrome.
It is equal to the zero fuel weight plus the fuel reserves.
Last Minute Changes (LMC) LMC means any change in the traffic load i.e. passenger, crew,
baggage, cargo, fuel etc. occurring after the issue of the Load
and Trim Sheet.
Loaded Index at Take-off Weight
(LITOW) Index for the position of the centre of gravity at takeoff weight.
Loaded Index at Zero FuelWeight (LIZFW) Index for the position of Centre of Gravity at Zero Fuel
Weight
Maximum Landing Weight(MLW) The maximum permissible total aircraft weight upon landing
under normal circumstances.
Maximum Take-off Weight
(MTOW) The maximum permissible total aircraft weight at the start of the take-off run.

Maximum Taxi Weight (MTW) The maximum permissible total aircraft weight.
Maximum Zero Fuel Weight(MZFW)
The maximum permissible total aircraft weight with no useable fuel.
The weight of the fuel contained in the particular tanks must be included in the zero fuel weight when it is
explicitly mentioned in the relevant AOM.
Take off Fuel The total fuel on board at take off
Takeoff Weight (TOW) Weight of the aircraft at the start of the take off run. It is equal to the landing
weight at the destination plus the trip fuel or the ZFW plus takeoff fuel.
Traffic Load The total weight of passengers, baggage, cargo plus the weight
of non-revenue-loads.
TOW = DOW + Traffic load + Reserve fuel(*) + trip fuel
LW = DOW + Traffic load + Reserve fuel(*)
ZFW = DOW + Traffic load
