a 100mm flushing pipe rigidly mounted inside each decanter, direct a spray of water
toward the back side of the decanter screen. The decanters are back flushed two at
a time in a predetermined sequence.
After the HYDROBIN has been unloaded and the gate has been closed and sealed,
the back flushing sequence is automatically initiated. The valves are opened
sequentially and flushed for about 15 seconds each. During this sequence, the
decant valves remain open. When the back flush sequence is completed, the decant
valves close and the last back flush valve remains open for an additional preset time
period to partially fill the bin with water, preparing the bin to receive slurry.
High Level Switch
The amount of phosphate in the bin is monitored by a tuning fork type level switch
that is mounted from the pipe bridge. When the material in the bin reaches a level
that is detected by the level switch, an alarm is signaled. If the alarm is signaled
while the bin is receiving slurry, operation is permitted to continue. However, a
HYDROBIN cannot be selected to receive slurry if this alarm is present.
Level Transmitter
A level transmitter is also supplied and provides real time water level (or phosphate
level after the bin has been dewatered) in each bin.
HYDROBIN Unloading Area
Each HYDROBIN discharges dewatered phosphate through a discharge chute and
into a vibrating feeder installed beneath each bin which moves the material onto the
common belt conveyor. The discharge gate and the access doors to the discharge
chute are accessible from the unloader platform.
Two vibrators are mounted on the lower conical section of each HYDROBIN,

dewatering bin is used to remove water from solid

material that has been pumped into the bin as a slurry. The bin is fitted with
an inlet bar screen, under and overflow baffles to contain turbulence and
direct the solids towards the bottom of the bin, and a serrated weir to
control the rate of overflow.
The bin is optionally fitted with vibrators to assist in the unloading of solids
from the bin, with gate heating elements to prevent freezing of the seal tube
to the gate, and with a stationary decant element internal back flush system
to clean the decant screens after unloading.
Operation of the HYDROBIN

comprises three stages: filling, decanting,

and unloading. Before receiving solids, the HYDROBIN

is filled with water

at least to the top of the cone to protect the internal components of the bin.
During the fill stage, solids accumulate in the bin. The fill stage ends when
the water/solids slurry is redirected.
The decanting stage has three parts. First, after the fill is complete, the
fines are allowed to settle out of suspension for a preset time period.
Second, a floating decanter siphons water from the top of the bin. Third,
stationary decant elements attached to the internal surface of the walls of
the bin slowly drain the remaining water from the bin.
The dewatered solid material is unloaded from the bin through a horizontal
gate at the bottom of the cone. If the HYDROBIN

is equipped with the

optional stationary decant back flush feature, high-pressure water through

back flush nozzles cleans the screens on the stationary decant elements of
trapped fines after the bin is emptied and before the next cycle is started.
