Bangkok hosts Prince Mahidol Award 2015

Sir Michael Marmot and Professor Morton Mower were conferred for their valuable contribution in the field of public health and medicine during
the Prince Mahidol Award 2015. The ceremony took place on January 29 2016 at the Grand Palace and in the presence of Princess
MahaChakriSirindhorn, who performed the obligation on behalf of BhumibolAdulyadej, the King of Thailand. The award ceremony was
established in 1992 with a view to celebrate 100th birthday of Prince Mahidol of Songkla.

Henry Tiphange, An Indian Activist selected for AIHR (Amnesty International Human Rights) Award 2016
Human rights activist and Indian Lawyer Henri Tiphagne on 26th January 2016 were chosen for the Amnesty International (Germany) Award for
Human Rights (8th). This award will recognise the exceptional commitment of Tiphagnes towards human rights. Henry will be presented with
this award on 25th April 2016 during an official function at the MG (Maxim Gorki) Theatre in the city of Berlin, Germany. Henri is the founding
member of Peoples Watch, a notable and well-known HR (Human Rights) Organisation in India. Peoples watch is famous for researching as
well as documenting violations related to human rights.

FIH Hockey Awards 2015 takes place

The FIH (International Federation of Hockey) hosted an award ceremony to honor the best players in International Hockey for the year 2015. The
ceremony was hosted on January 26 2016. The winner of the best hockey player female was Lidewij Welten and the winner of the best hockey
player male was Robert Van der Horst from Netherlands. Apart from these key awards, there were also appreciations for best goalkeeper of the
year (women), best goalkeeper of the year (men), rising start of the year (men) and rising star of the year (women).

Jehan Daruwala from India wins Lady Wigram award in motor racing
Jehan Daruvala, a Sahara (Force India) Academy racer won the most prestigious trophy of New Zealand, Lady Wigram Award in the motor racing
event on 16th January 2016. It was also Jehans first ever victory in the Formula cars category after making a turnaround from his previous
interest karting in the year 2015. Daruvala in the year 2015 won the Rookie award at the NEC series (Formula Renault 2.0) that was held in
Netherlands. Wigram Trophy is a motorsport award from New Zealand.

New award category for Most Film-friendly State/UT to be introduced by Union Government
On 18th January 2016, Indian Union Government came to the decision that there should a new National award given to that State/UT which is
most film-friendly. The award will be titled as Most Film-Friendly State/UT. This award will be presented for first time during the 63rd
(National) film awards that is scheduled on 3rd May 2016. This decision of creating a new award category came from the government as a
measure to promote and develop Indian Film sector as well as its Soft Power. Apart from this, I&B Ministry also promised to establish film
facilitation office for facilitation and development of filmmaking.

California hosts 21st Critic Choice Awards

The 21st edition of Critic Choice Awards was hosted in California on January 17 2016. The event looked forward to appreciate the contributions in
drama and films which were aired from June 1 2015 to December 31 2015. The nominees were selected from BFCA (Broadcast Film Critics
Association) and BTJA (Broadcast Television Journalists Association. Leonardo DiCaprio was awarded the best actorfor the movie Revenant,
whereas Brie Larson won the award for the best actress for Room. There were also other awards which includes best director, best supporting
actor, best supporting actress, best young actor, best acting ensemble and best original screenplay.

Mumbai hosts 61st Filmfare Award Show

On 15th January 2016, Mumbai hosted the Filmfare Awards that celebrated its 61st anniversary at the famous Yash Raj Studio. Famous comedian
and actor Kapil Sharma and Shahrukh Khan hosted the Show. Bajirao Mastani was the clear winner grabbing most of the awards during the
event. The film won awards for best film, best costume, best actor and best director among others. Other films that won awards were Piku,
Tamasha, Masaan, Bombay Velvet, Roy, Bajrangi Bhaijaan etc. Deepika Padukone and Ranvir Singh won the best actress and best actor awards
respectively. Also, Moushumi was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Filmfare Award.

Anuradha Roy wins 2016 DSC Award for her novel

On 16th January 2016, famous Indian writer and award-winning novelist Anuradha Roy grabbed the esteemed DSC Prize under the South-Asian
Literature category for her novel Sleeping on Jupiter. The award ceremony took place in Sri Lanka during the on-going Literary Festival. Prime
Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the award. Other shortlisted candidates were Akhil Sharma (Family Life), KR Meera
(Hangwomen), Neel Mukherjee (Lives of others), RK Jha and Mirza Waheed. Anuradha is also an editor and a journalist.

Ankita Anand, a Delhi-based write wins the LNM (Lorenzo Natali Media) Award for her work
Ankita Anand, an independent writer from Delhi area, surprised came into limelight on 14th January 2016, when she won the LNM (Lorenzo
Natali Media) prize 2015 in the Asia-pacific amateur category. The LNM is a prestigious European Commissions award. She grabbed this award
for her penetrating portrayal of the life of young women who face enormous risk because of the khap panchayats diktat across the Haryana

This years Pylee Award to be given to Dr Jancy James

On 15th January 2016, Dr. Jancy James was selected for Prof (MV) Pylee Award. This award is given every year for distinguished academician
across India. Dr. James is Keralas first ever woman Vice-Chancellor. This award has been instituted by CU (Cochin University) in MV Pylees
name. He was an educationalist, Indian scholar, management guru and recognised as father of Keralas management education. This award is
presented for outstanding work in research, teaching as well as contribution to the academic community. A sum of Rs. 1 lakh is given as prize

Ballon dOr Award 2015 goes to Lionel Messi

The centre of attraction in the Ballon dOr Award 2015 was Lionel Messi as he claimed the title for a record fifth time. The event took place on
January 11 2016, where prominent names in the realm of football such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar were present. Lionel won
the award with a vote percent of 41.33, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo was voted as the second best player with a vote percent of 27.76. Neymar was
third in the list with a vote percent of 7.86. The event is hosted with a view to appreciate the contribution of football players at national and
international level.

California hosted 73rd AGGW (Annual Golden Globe Awards)

On 11th January 2016, the 73rd AGGW was hosted in the Beverly Hilton Hotel of California. During the ceremony, the best in the industry of
Motion Pictures and Television are praised. The award for the best picture in Drama genre was given to The Revenant, whereas the award for
the best actor was given to Lenoardo DiCaprio. There were also other appreciations such as award for the best supporting actor and actress. The
best animated movie award was given to Inside Out.

Raghuram Rajan given this years Central Banker Award

Raghuram Rajan, current Governor of the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) was honoured with one of the most prestigious banker awards, the Award
for Central Banker of the year 2016 (Asia Pacific and Global). Monthly Publication of The financial Times Group, The Banker, provided the
award. The renowned Central Banker award, which is presented every year to leaders and thinkers in the financial sector, celebrates the people
who have managed to stabilise the economy of the country and stimulate growth. Raghuram Rajan was born on February 3 rd, 1963 and overtook
as the governor of RBI on September 5th, 2013.

Sanjay Subrahmanyam gets Sangita Kalanidhi Award 2015

Classical singer Sanjay Subrahmanyam received 2015 Sangita Kalanidhi Award on 1 January, 2016. The event took place at the 89 th Annual
meeting of MMAC (Madras Music Academy in Chennai). The felicitation of this award made Sanjay Subrahmanyam the 7 th person to win this
award under the age of 50 years. A CA by profession, Sanjay Subrahmanyam became a full-time musician in 2000 and proceeded in classical
music. Some of his most famous compositions are Kala Sudhakara and Gaana Padhmam. He is currently one of the best vocalist in India.

Harpal Singh honoured by Queen Elizabeth II

Harpal Singh Kumar, a researcher on cancer and a person of Indian-origin was knighted by the Queen Elizabeth II in England on December 31,
2015 for his contribution in the field of cancer treatment. Born in 1965, Harpals parents shifted to India during the phase of partition and later on
moved to the Great Britain. Over there, Harpal went to St. Johns College and the University of Cambridge to obtain his MEng degree. He also
won other renowned prices such as Metal Box Prize, Hughes Prize and Mobil Prize.

eASIA Award won by DAVA Project

DAVA (Drug Authentication and Verification Application) Project of India has won the eASIA award on December 31, 2015 under the category
of Trade Facilitation. The award was given to DAVA in Tehran, Iran, where AFACT (Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic
Business) was being hosted. DAVA is basically a tracing system of import and export of Drugs and Pharmaceuticals in the Indian market. It was
launched on June 29, 2015 by the Department of Commerce.

Global Soccer Awards

The Global Soccer Awards took place in Dubai on December 27 2015. This was the sixth edition of Soccer Awards and awards with respect to
excellence in the field were given to the players. The best player of the year was won by Lionel Messi, the star of FC Barcelona and the best club
of the year was also won by FC Barcelona. The award function also witnessed appreciation for other positions as well. Awards such as best
referee of the year, best coach of the year, best academy of the year, etc., were also given. The awards were won by Ravshan Irmatov, Marc
Wilmots and Benfica, respectively. The event was broadcasted worldwide on several networks.

Syed Kirmani nominated for Lifetime Achievement Award

On December 24 2015, Syed Kirmani, wicket-keeper for Team India (Former) was nominated for Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award
for 2015. The decision took place in a meeting which was held at the headquarters of BCCI in Mumbai. Syed Kirmani had represented Indian
Cricket Team for 10 years (from 1976 to 1986). His key career achievements includes 38 stumpings and 160 catches (in Tests) and 9 stumpings
and 27 catches (in ODIs). In 2014, the award was received by Dilip Vengsarkar.The award ceremony started in 1994 by the BCCI with a view to
celebrate the birthday of Indias first test captain, Col. Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu. The objective of this award is to appreciate the contribution of
cricketers on and off the cricket ground. As a token of appreciation, the winner is awarded with a citation, a cheque of 25 lakhs and a trophy.

Rakesh K Jain for prestigious US National Medal of Science 2015

Rakesh K Jain, the India-American Professor has been awarded the National Medal of Science in 2015. Holding the positions of a Professor and
Director at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, respectively, Mr. Jain has received this prestigious award along with 16
other people in the realm of Technology and Innovation. Prof. Rakesh Jain has a B.Tech Degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and is
regarded as a pioneer of realm of tumors.

Awards & Honours Current Affairs February 2016

This years K Veeramani Social Justice Award will be awarded to Bihars CM Nitish Kumar
On 29th January 2016, Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar was selected as this years recipient for the prominent K Veeramani Social Justice
Award 2015. Nitish Kumars contribution and involvement in social justice made him the worthy recipient of this award. Periyar International
which is a voluntary organization from Chicago will be presenting this award. The venue and date of the event are not yet finalised. K Veeramani
Social Justice Award is a tribute to Periyar Ramasami by NRI (non-resident Indian) followers for his extraordinary work towards social reforming
of Indians living across the Globe.

PM Shram Awards 2014

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced PM Shram Awards for 2014 on February 9 2016. There were a total of 32 awards which
was given to 54 people. The award is offered to people who have valuable contributions in the private sector and the public sector.

69th British Academy Film Awards

The 69th edition of BAFTA (British Academy Films Awards) as announced on 14th February 2016. The agenda of the event was to acknowledge
the contribution of British actors in films released in 2015. The event was hosted in London, at the Royal Opera House. The nominees for the
various awards were released on January 8 2016 by Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Stephen Fry. The award for the best movie went to The Revenant
and Brooklyn won the award for the Outstanding British Film. Contributions like Inside Out and Amy were also awarded in the category of Best
Animated Film and Best Documentary category, respectively.

Infosys Prize 2015 conferred by President Pranab Mukherjee

On February 13 2016, six people were awarded with Infosys Prize by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. The recipients of the awards
were- Dr. Srinath Raghvan (Social Sciences), Prof. Jonardon Ganeri (Humanities), Prof, Umesh Waghamre (Engineering and Computer Science),
Dr. Amit Sharma (Life Sciences), Prof. Ravindra Kumar (Physical Sciences) and Prof. Mahan Mj (Mathematical Science). The prize is being
awarded from the year 2009 and is being awarded in six categories. Under this prize distribution mechanism, the winner is awarded with INR 65
lakhs and a 22 karat god medal with a citation certificate.

Villagers of Nagaland win Golden Beaver Award

February 13 2016, Nagaland won the title for the Golden Beaver Film on making a short movie named as Nagaland is changing, But The event
took place in Mumbai, where the award was given by M S Sathyu, a renowned director, to the director of this short film, Gurmeet Sapal. The film
was produced by the State Forest Department of Nagaland and is about a community that focuses on conservation in Kohima district. TERI
rendered the needful technical collaboration during the development of the film.

Sagar Sarhadi to get Lifetime Achievement Award

One of finest scriptwriter of India, Sagar Sarhadi would be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in IFFP (International Film Festival of
Prayag). The event will take place on Allahabad from February 26 to 28 2016. Born in Pakistan, Sarhadi started his career with small stories and
eventually moved on to writing scripts. One of this most popular contribution came through Bazaar which starred Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil
and Farooq Sheikh. His life transformed after the success of Yash Chopras Kabhi Kabhi, in which Sagar Sarhadi had contributed as a playwriter.
The event IFFP will be having its second edition this year. During the first year, Bollywood actor Om Puri was honoured with a Lifetime
Achievement Award.

Green Bond Pioneer Award goes to YES Bank

In an award ceremony held in the LSE (London Stock Exchange), YES Bank won a prestigious bank award named as Green Bond Pioneer
Award. The award is offered to those entities who have established themselves as an emerging pioneer in a given market. YES Bank is the fifth
largest private bank of India and was among the first to issue Green Infrastructure Bonds. Apart from YES Bank, there were no Indian banks who
made it to the list of winners. Other banks whose contributions were recognized in the event were World Bank, Peoples Bank of China, etc.

Ranjit Trophy won by Mumbai

Mumbai registered its 41st title win in the Ranjit Trophy on February 26 2016. The win came over the Saurashtra, who were defeated by an
innings and 21 runs. In the finals, Mumbai opted to bat first and scored 371 in their first innings. Saurashtra struggled in both their innings and
ended up scoring 235 & 115 in the first and second innings, respectively. Shreyas Iyer from Mumbai was named Man of the Match.

Ranveer Singh for Dinanath Mangeshkar Award

Ranveer Singh, the Indian Actor, was selected for Dinanath Mangeshkar Award on February 26 2016. The award was established in 1999 to mark
the death anniversary of Dinanath Mangeshkar, father of singer Lata Mangeshkar. The award has a monetary compensation to the winner of INR
101001 rupees along with a citation and a memento. Ranveer Singh had performed in a movie named as Bajirao Mastani. He has also received
numerous appreciation for his role and managed to win the Film Fare Award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) 2015.

International Awards for IGI airport
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) received 3 international awards on February 29 2016. The list of awards also includes the award
for best airport by size for the region of Asia Pacific Region. IGIA is currently being managed by Delhi International Airport, which is a venture
between AAI, Fraport and GMR Group.

KSF Awards 2015

The Kerala State Film (KSF) Awards 2015 was announced on March 1 2016 in Thiruvananthapuram. In the award ceremony, Dulquer Salmaan
won the award for the Best Actor for having played the lead role in the moive Charlie, whereas Parvathy was given the award for the Best Actor
(Female) for her role in the movie Chairle and Ennu Ninte Moideen. The Best movie for the year 2015 was awarded to Ozhivu Divasathe Kali.
There were several performances by reputed actors of the Kollywood.

Ratan Thiyam honoured at 11th META theatre award

Legendary playwriter Ratan Thiyam was honoured with a lifetime achievement award in the 11th edtion of META (Mahindra Excellence Theatre
Awards). The event took place on March 1 2016. Currently, Ratan Thiyam occupies the seat of the Chairman at National School of Drama and
has been a key contributor to numerous fields such as writing, direction, composition, designing and choreography. In the past, people like
Heisnam Kanhailal, Badal Sarkar, Girish Karnad and Ebrahim Alkazi have received this award from META.

Windham-Campbell prizes 2016

The Windham-Campbell award for 2016 was won by Pinto, an Indian author, who debuted with a fictional novel named as Em and The Big
Hoom. The book was published in the year 2012 and was recognized as a good reading piece. The book is about an anonymous narrator who tries
to create an understanding with her mother, who is suffering from a bipolar disorder and is continuously trying to commit suicide. The story
theme of the story is based in a Mumbai and focuses upon the life of a Goan Christian.

Dr. Bhagwati Lal Vyas honoured with Bihari Puraskar 2015

On March 2 2016, Bihari Puraskar 2015 was awarded to a renowned poet of India, Dr. Bhagwati Lal Vyas. His collection of Rajasthani poems
became an obvious choice for the critics to honor him with the award. Dr. Bhagwati Lal Vyas also has Sahitya Akademi Award to her credit and

Tony Warren, creator of Coronation Street, passed away

The creator of Coronation Street, legendary Tony Warren passed away on March 1 2016 at the age of 79 years. Tony was born on July 8 1936 and
completed his professional education from Elliott-Clarke theatre school. He was a key performer in BBC Radio during the Childrens Hour and
also contributed to numerous roles hosted on Radio show.

Manoj Kumar honoured at Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The legendary film actor Manoj Kumar was honoured with a Dadasaheb Phalke Award on March 4 2016. The award was given on the basis of the
decision made by a 5-member jury which included figures like Salim Khan, Anup Jalota, Asha Bhosle, Nitin Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar.

Manoj Kumar has been one of the finest actor in the Indian Film Industry and has started in films like Kranti, Purab aur Paschim, Do Badan, etc.
His contribution had made the era of 1950s, 1960s and 1970s a treat to watch. He is also the recipient of Padma Shri in 1992.

IIT Professor Sirshendu De elected for Innovation Award 2016

The Head of the Chemical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Sirshendu De was selected as a contestant for the Innovation Award 2016. Prof.
De has prepared a low cost arsenic water filter which can transform arsenic contaminated water into safe drinking water within matter of seconds.
The award is given by IDA (Indian Desalination Association) and intends to acknowledge those people who have valuable contributions to the
society. The development of Prof. De is capable of nullifying the impact of arsenic material in water upto 32mg in every litre.

Krutitava Smagra Samman for Padma Sachdev

Padma Sachdev, one of the most renowned poets in Dogri was felicitated with a Krutitava Smagra Samman on March 6 2016. The event took
place in Kolkata, at the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, and the award was given by the Governor of West Bengal, Keshari Nath Tripathi. Along with
an award, a cash prize of INR 1, 00, 000 and a shawl was also given. Padma Sachdev is a poet by profession and has often indulged in enriched
the Hindi Literature as well as Dogri Literature. Occasionally, she has also contributed to journals and newspapers.

Anand Mahindra given the prestigious Chevalier de la Legion d Honneur of France

MD (Managing Director) and Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra on 13th March 2016 was given the prestigious Chevalier de la
Legion d Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) of France by the French Government . The award was presented by Frances Ambassador to
India, Franois Richier for his ground-breaking international and national achievements. Mahindra is known for his leadership and turning
Mahindra Group into one of the most recognised and leading global organisation.

(Sir)Andrew Wiles, British mathematician wins Abel Prize, 2016

On 15th March 2016, (Sir) Andrew Wiles, world famous and noted British mathematician was awarded the Abel Prize 2016 by the NASL
(Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters), Ohio. Andrew Wiles was awarded with this prestigious honour for solving the centuries-old
hypothesis, Last Theorem of Fermat. Crown-Prince Haakon will be presenting this award in May 2016 as the academy described this
achievement as an epochal-moment. (Sir) Andrew J. Wiles is a research professor from the Royal Society at the Oxford Theory, and specialises in
Number Theory

PankajVenkaiah Naidu conferred with Skoch Lifetime Achievement Award

On the 43rd SKOCH summit, the Urban Development minister, Venkaiah Naidu was honoured with a Skoch Lifetime Achievement Award. The
event took place on March 18 2016 at New Delhi. His contribution towards the development of rural areas had shown remarkable progress where
areas under poverty were improved. The event also witnessed a Skoch Award to the IT minister, KT Rama Rao (for Telangana State). His was
honoured under the Startup India category.Skoch Awards was started in 2003 with a view to acknowledge the contributions of ministers who have
made a difference in the society with their contribution.

Tikka Shatrujit Singh given French Honor

On March 17 2016, Tikka Shatrujit Singh, Scion of Ahluwalia dynasty was honoured with Knight of the Legion of Honour by Francois Richier,
the French ambassador in India. The ceremony took place in New Delhi. The ceremony was hosted with a view to acknowledge the contribution
of Tikka Shatrujit Singh in bringing closer the culture of France and India. Tikka Shatrujit Singh is a well-known name in the realm of lifestyle.
Maharaja Jagatjit Singh was his great-grandfather and had serious liking toward France. People often used to call him a Francophile.

5th National Photography Awards takes place in India

On March 21 2016, the Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley presented the 5th National Photography Awards at New Delhi. There were a total
of 12 awards conferred in the ceremony and categories included award for amateur category as well as professional category. The theme for
amateur photography was Save Mother Earth, whereas the theme for professional photographers was Festivals of India. Bhawan Singh, Javed
Ahmed Dar and Himanshu Thakur were conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award, Professional Photographer Award and Amateur
Photographer award, respectively.

National Film Awards (63rd Edition) announced

On March 28 2016, the 63rd Edition of National Film Awards was announced. The award ceremony will be held on May 3 2016. The list of
winners includes- Baahubali as Best Feature Film, Neeraj Ghaywan (Director of Masaan) for Indira Gandhi Award (Best debutante Director),
Bajrangi Bhaijaan for most popular movie and Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Bajirao Mastani) for Best Director. The best actor award was won by
Amitabh Bachchan for Piku, whereas best actress was won by Kangana Ranaut for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

Jailed Novelist from Egypt Ahmed Naji receives PEN/Barbey Freedom to Write Award
On 31st March 2016, PEN America announced that Journalist and imprisoned novelist from Egypt Ahmed Naji will be receiving the PEN/Barbey
Freedom to Write Award. Naji will receive this award during the Annual Literary Festival by Pen America on 16 th May 2016. The event will take
place at the AMNH (American Museum of Natural History) in the city of New York. The gala will also recognise J.K. Rowling, author of
bestselling Harry Potter series with the PFLS Award for her extraordinary contribution in the literature for children. Ahmed Naji is an author and

Jeje Lalpekhlua and Mohun Bagan conferred with this years FPAI Player award
On 25th April 2016, Professional Indian striker Jeje Lalpekhlua and known football association Mohun Bagan bagged this years FPAI (Football
Players Association of India) Indian Player Award. The event took place during the annual award function of FPAI in Mumbai. The highest voted
for individual players were received by Lalpekhua by fellow footballers such as Bikash Jairu, Sunil Chhetri, Dhanachandra Singh and David
Lalrinmuana which gave him the top spot. The foreign player of the year award was given to Ranti Martins (Nigerian striker) who was part of

the East Bengal team in I-League.

KA Kumar, IIT Scholar, wins IPNS (International Plant Nutrition Scholar) Award
On 26th April 2016, K.A. (Ashok) Kumar, an IIT Kharagpur based research scholar, was awarded the prestigious IPNS (International Plant
Nutrition Scholar) award. Kumar is a scholar researching at the DAFG (department of agricultural and food engineering) at IIT, Kharagpur. The
award was given by IPNI (International Plant Nutrition Institute), a US-based institute. This award constitutes 2000 US Dollars cash prize, and a
certificate of recognition. The main objective of Kumars current research project is to understand the dynamics of soil-nutrient under the
inorganic and organic nutrient management for improving the overall crop yield as well as the rice-chickpea cropping process quality in the
lateritic soil.

Tabassum Adnan, noted Swat activist wins 2016 NMA (Nelson Mandela Award)
On 28th April 2016, noted activist for Women Rights Tabassum Adnan was conferred with the prestigious MGMI (Mandela Grace Machel
Innovation) Award 2016. The event took place in the city of Bogot, Cambodia were the ICSW (International Civil Society Week) was going on
from 25th April to 28th April 2016. Tabassum is from Pakistans Swat Valley and won this accolade for her significant contribution in the field of
womens rights. Tabassum was married-off at age 13 and was subjected to regular domestic abuse. The marriage ended after twenty years after
she courageously divorced her husband. She founded the first ever (and only) Sisters Council known as Khwendo Jigra which conducts weekly
meetings for addressing women rights issues such as acid attacks, honor killings etc.

NGS (National Geoscience) Awards, 2014 presented by Pranab Mukherjee

On 5th April 2016, Indian President P. Mukherjee presented the NGS (National Geoscience) Awards, 2014. The event took place at the Rashtrapati
Bhavan in the capital city of India, New Delhi. These are annual awards presented in honour of individual scientists as well as teams for their
extraordinary contributions in fields such as applied or fundamental geosciences, mining as well as allied areas. For 2014, the highest NGS
(National Geoscience) Excellence Award was given to Prof. AK Singhvi for his extraordinary contributions across the sedimentary technologies


Apte wins award for best across for her film Madly at the TFF (Tribeca Film Fest) 2016
On 22nd April 2016, popular actress of Bollywood Radhika Apte won the award for best actress for her film Madly at the TFF (Tribeca Film
Fest) 2016. Madly is an anthology film in which Radhika featured in a segment called Clean Shaven. Other award winners from the fest were
Dominic Rains (U.S. Narrative Feature Film) and Mackenzie Davis for Always Shine (Best Actress in a U.S. Narrative Feature Film) among
many others.

$5 bill from New Zealand wins IBNS Banknote of the Year Award
On 25th April, the IBNS (IBNS) announced that the $5 bill from New Zealand is going to be conferred with IBNS Banknote of the Year Award.
From at least 20 nations, around 40 bills were nominated in which New Zealands bill was clear winner. As per the voting, there were four
runners up. Swedens note (20 Kronor) which depicted Astrid Lindgren (famous childrens author), 100-Ruble note from Russia depicting
Crimean landmarks, 2000-Tenge note from Kazakhstan and 5-Pound Polymer note from Scotland (Clydesdale Bank). New Zealands Reserve
Bank started releasing a fresh family of BMBs (Brighter Money Banknotes) in the year 2015, beginning with $5 & $10 denominations.

Padma Awards 2016 conferred by President Pranab Mukherjee

April 12 2016 witnessed presentation of Padma Awards 2016 by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. The ceremony had presentation of 40
Padma Shri Awards, 5 Padma Vibhushan Awards and 11 Padma Bhushan Awards. The announcement for Padma Awards 2016 was already made
on January 26 2016, which also marks the Republic Day of India. With a total name of 112 recipients, 56 members were honoured on March 28
2016 and remaining 56 members were awarded on April 12 2016.

Global India Award 2016 winner Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The Global Indian Award 2016 was presented to Bollywood Actress and Former Miss World Pageant, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The event took
place on April 12 2016 at an award ceremony hosted in Mumbai. Prior to this year, the award was won by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh
Khan in 2014 & 2015, respectively.

Padma Sachdev nominated for the Saraswati Samman award, 2015

On 12th April 2016, poet and author Padma Sachdev was nominated for the Saraswati Samman award, 2015. She will be given this award for her
famous autobiography named Chitt-Chete, which is written in language Dogri. This book was published in the year 2007 and linked the authors
personal tribulations and trails with issues related to nation, society as well as the world. Padma Sachdev is a Jammu born modern poet of the
Dogri Language. She received the award Sahitya Akademi in the year 1971 for her work Meri Kavita Mere Geet. She was also honoured with
the prestigious Padma Shri award in the year 2001.

President presented Hindi Seva Samman Awards

On 19th April 2016, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee presented the HSS (Hindi Seva Samman) Awards for three years (2012, 2013, and 2014).
The event took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The HSS Awards were first given in the year 1989 by the CHI (Central Hindi
Institute) Agra. There are seven categories and every year 14 scholars receive these awards for their work in fields of literature and Hindi

On 4th May 2016, Pranab Mukherjee conferred the 15th FIEO (Federation of Indian Export Organizations) Niryat Bandhu and Niryat Shree

Parashar Kulkarni grabs 2016 CSSP (Commonwealth Short Story Prize) for the Asia Region
Parashar Kulkari has been conferred with the 2016 CSSP (Commonwealth Short Story Prize) Award for the Asia Region. The award was given
for his unpublished and politically grounded short fiction named Cow and Company. He will be receiving 2500 pounds as cash prize. The story
talks about four men searching for a cow and is full of twisted plots. It also shows connections between commercial interests and culture.

MP Tourism awarded Best Indian Destination for Wildlife Award

On 9th May 2016, the MPT (Madhya Pradesh Tourism) was awarded the Best Indian Destination for Wildlife Award. LP (Lonely Planet) Group
presented this award. The award was presented by Amy Jackson, Indian Address during an event in Mumbai. As per SFR (State of Forest Report)

IAF Hall of Fame Award conferred to an Indian for the first time
The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) on 14th May 2016 announced that UR Rao, renowned space scientist will be conferred with the
IAF (International Astronautical Federation) Hall of Fame Award for the year 2016. He will be given this prestigious award for his significant
contribution to astronautics and its progress with the IAFs framework of activities. The award will be given to the scientist during the 67 th IAC
(International Astronautical Congress) event, which will be held in Mexico.

Han Kang, author from South Korea wins 2016 MBI (Man Booker International) Prize for the novel The
On 16th May 2016, Han Kand was honored with the prestigious Man Booker International-Prize, 2016 for the
novel The Vegetarian. Han is an author from South Korea and with this award; she becomes the first author from South Korea to receive this

Barack Obama presents US National Medal of Science, 2015 to Indian-American professor Rakesh Jain
On 19th May 2016, President of the United States, Barack Obama presented the US National Medal of Science, 2015 to Indian-American
professor Rakesh Jain. Jain received this honor with 16 other honorees of the NMS (National Medal of Science) and NMTI (National Medal of
Technology and Innovation) during a ceremony at the White House. Jain works as Harvard Medical Schools professor and is also the director of
TBL (Tumor Biology Laboratory) at the MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital). He received this honor for his significant contributions in the
field of tumor biology, in-vivo imaging, bioengineering and drug delivery.

Engineer from US, Frances Arnold became the first woman ever to win the Millennium Technology Award
On 24th May 2016, noted innovation and engineer from America Frances Arnold was awarded with the MTP (Millenium Technology Prize), 2016.
The MTP is among the largest and most renowned technology award across the globe. Since its inception 12 years back, Arnold became the first
women ever to win this prize. The prize was declared by TAF (Technology Academy Finland) and the prize amount is one million euros. Arnold

On 22nd May 2016, PTR (Pakke Tiger Reserve) in AP bagged the India Biodiversity Award 2016. This Tiger Reserve is in the East-Kamend
District of AP. The HNA (Hornbill Nest Adoption) Programme of this Reserve was given the award under the CTS (Conservation of threatened
species) category. Also, the category IV BMC (Biodiversity Management Committee) award was given to Hong Niitii. The HNA is an association
of NCF (Nature Conservation Foundation), SFD (State Forest Departments) and Ghora-Aabhe Society. As per this project, urban citizens donate

AR Rahman honored with Japans Fukuoka prize 2016

On 30th May 2016, celebrated music composer from India AR Rehman was honored with Japans prestigious Fukuoka Award 2016. He was given
this award for his significant contribution in creating, preserving as well as popularizing the traditional-fusion music of South Asia. Rahman will
be receiving this award alongwith noted historian from Phillipines Ameth Ocampo and Yasmeen Lari of Pakistan. Last year, this award was given
to Tamchandra Guha, well-known Indian Historian. Rahman has received many international awards over the years such as Malaysian Award and
MNA (Mauritius National Award) in the year 1995 for his work towards music.

LK Bhattacharyya, an Indian-origin professor, awarded with Regius Professorship

On 7th June 2016, LK Bhattacharyya was awarded with the famed Regius Professorship. Bhattacharya is a professor of Indian-origin and founded
by WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group) at the Warwick University. He was given this prestigious award by the Queen of England. LK (Lord
Kumar) Bhattacharyya is also a noted government advisor and an educator. He took over as the professor of MS (Manufacturing Systems) at the

2016 IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards presented

2016 IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards were presented on 22nd June 2016. It was IIFAs 17th year. The event took place in Spain.
IIFA awards are given to honor the best Hindi movies. The best film was given to Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Sanjay L. Bhansali received best director for

On 15th June 2016, Mohun Bagan announced that Former team coach of Indian football, Syed Nayeemuddin, will be conferred with MBR
(Mohun Bagan Ratna). Syed is the only Indian football coach to receive Dronacharya award. Syed was awarded with this honor for his significant
contribution to this club and the nation both as coach and player. He was appointed Indian Football coach in 1997. Syed has won both
Dronacharya Award and Arjuna Award for football, making him the only sports-personality to have achieved that. He was also the captain of the

Advay Ramesh from Chennai won GCI (Google Community Impact) Award. It is a theme-based award given during the Google-Science Fair
2016. Advay created a device that enhanced the productivity and safety of fisherman. The device was called FELT (Fishermen Lifeline Terminal).
It uses SPS (Standard Position Services) for navigation and productivity enhancing. Ramesh is 14 years old. He will be competing for a USD
50000 Google scholarship. This award recognises projects making practical differences in the community of the innovator. The first GoogleScience Fair was held in 2011. It involves open competition among 13 to 18 year olds.

Milkha Singh to be honoured with BG Award

Milkha Singh is to be honoured with BG (Bharat Gaurav) Award. The award will be given by East Bengal (Kolkata Football Club). The

NSA (National Sports Awards) 2016 announced

Union Government announced NSA (National Sports Awards) 2016 on 22nd August 2016. The RGKR (Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna) Awards will be
given to Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu. Two other sportsmen selected for top awards were Dipa Karmakar (Gymnast) and Jitu Rai (Shooter). The
awards are given on a yearly basis for recognizing and rewarding sports excellence. PV Sindhu is a Badminton champion who won silver in the
Rio Olympics. Sakshi Malik also won Bronze medal in the Rio Olympics for wrestling. Dronacharya Awards are given for coaches. 6 sports
coaches have been selected. These are SM Dayal (Boxing), N Ramesh (Athletics) & RK Sharma (Cricket). Others are M Singh (Wrestling), SP
Kumar (Swimming) & B Nandi (Swimming). Mahabir Singh & SP Kumar received lifetime awards for their work. Arjuna awards will be given
to 15 sportsmen across different sports. DCA (Dhyan Chand Award), 2015 will be presented to 3 sportsmen. The RKPP (Rashtriya Khel
Protsahana Purushkar) will be given to RBI, IIFCL and SMSES. This award is presented to both public sector and private sector corporate
entities. MAKA (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad) Trophy was given to Punjabi University, Patiala.

N Ramachandran (IOA Chief) conferred with Olympic Order award

On 21st August 2016, N Ramachandran (IOA Chief) was conferred with Olympic Order award. The award will be given for his remarkable
services across Olympics movement. The award was presented by IOC (International Olympic Committee) Chairman, Thomas Bach. This award
is the uppermost award for Olympics. It is given to recognize the efforts deserving merit across the sports community. It was created in 1975 as
the successor to Olympic Certificate. Originally, there were 3 grades of gold, silver & bronze. After 1984, bronze grade became dormant. The
award is bestowed to the CNOs (chief national organizers) of the IOC during Olympic closing ceremony. The only awardee to have received this
honor twice is Nadia Comaneci (former athlete). Nadia won in 2004 and 1984.

National Tourism (2014-15) Awards presented

On 30th July 2016, National Tourism (2014-15) Awards were presented. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan presented the awards. It was given
for various segments across the tourism, travel & hospitality industry. MP was chosen as best state in the Comprehensive Tourism Development
category. Gujarat & Karnataka came second and third. The BFJ (Best Foreign Journalist) award was received by Stephanie Pearson (America).
She received the award for her The Great Heaven feature on state Kerala. The best tourism film award was received by Daman & Diu for Ilha
De Calma. Mumbais Chhatrapati airport was given the best airport award. Warangal, Telangana was the best Heritage city.

On 15th August 2016, AR Rahman was honored with the Tamil Ratna Award. It is a noted musician and composer whose songs are celebrated
across the globe. New York based organization Tamil Sangam presented the award. Rahman was given this award after he performed at the
UNGA chamber. UNGA invited Rahman to perform at a concert. The objective was honoring M.S. Subbulakshi, Carnatic music leader.

Shubha Mudgal will be given RGN (Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana) Award
On 30th 2016, it was announced that Shubha Mudgal will receive RGN (Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana) Award. The decision was taken by

Haryana bags Best Horticulture State award

Haryana recently bagged the Best Horticulture State award. The award was given for continuous efforts for increasing the farmers income in
horticulture. OP Dhankar (Agricuture Minister) received the award on 9th September 2016. It was declared during two-day 9th ALS (Agricultural
Leadership Summit), 2016. ICFA (Indian Council of Food and Agriculture) organized the event. At present, the state is trying to increase the land
from 2.5 lakh to 9 lakh hectares. The state will also establish a new Horticulture University.

Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane given Arjuna Award

Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane was given Arjuna Award by Vijay Goel (Sports Minister). The event took place in the capital city of India. Both
Rahane and Sharma are noted Indian cricketers. Rahane received the award for the year 2016. Sharma received the award for the year 2015.
Arjuna awards were instituted in the year 1961. It is given for outstanding performances for 4 years. The qualities are sportsmanship, leadership

Rajbhasha awards were given on 14th September 2016 in India. The event took place at the Rashtrapati Bahwan. It was also Hindi Diwas
celebration. The awards were instituted by DOL of the Home Ministry. It is for recognizing excellent contribution by Banks & Ministries in Hindi
field. The Divas is celebrated every year on 14th September 2016. On this date, Hindi was adopted as Indias official language. It was adopted by
Indias Constituent Assembly in 1949.

Bibhuti Lahkar won HHA (Heritage Heroes Award) of IUCN

Conservation activist & ecologist Bibhuti Lahkar won HHA (Heritage Heroes Award) of IUCN. The award was given on 4 th September 2016. He
also became the 1st Asian to receive this award. The award was presented at the IUCN WCC (World Conservation Congress), Hawaii. He was one
of the 5 global nominees for this award. The awards are aimed towards recognition of outstanding world heritage efforts. Bibhuti has research
Indias grassland ecosystem across Assam. Lahkar completed his PhD in grasslands on MNP (Manas National Park). He has covered diverse
areas across Manas & Kajiranga. Bibhuti also received Ruffords Foundation Grant for his community conservation works. Lahkar also
conducted Indias 1st GIS survey. This was done at the RM National Park. His findings & recommendations were a critical part of the MTCP
(Manas Tiger Conservation Plan).

Bezwada Wilson & TM Krishna received RM (Ramon Magsaysay) Award 2016

On 31st August 2016, B Wilson & TM Krishna received RM (Ramon Magsaysay) Award 2016. This award was for their campaign eradicating
manual scavenging. Six people received this award. From Laos, Vientiane Rescue received the award. From Japan, it was JOCV (Japan Overseas
Cooperation Volunteers). TM Krishna is a famos Carnatic singer. The award was won under the Energent Leadership Category. Wilson is SKA
(Safai Karmachari Andolan) national convenor. He lead the grassroot movement for deliminating the manual scavenging job. Other objective was
reclaiming human dignity for Dalits in India.

KG George grabs JC Daniel Award 2015

Veteran film director KG George was given JC Daniel Award on 6th September 2016. The award was given for his contribution towards
Malayalam films. It will be given during the SFAs (State Film Awards) ceremony. The event will take place at Palakkad. George is a noted
screenwriter and director. KG is known to revolutionize Malayalam films during 1970s. He studied human mind and psychological analysis in

films. The debut movie from KG was Swapnadanam, 1975. For this, he received NFA (National Film Award). Some of his top films are Yavanika,
Mela and Ulkadal. He is chairman and founder of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association). JC Daniels is the highest award across
Malayalam Cinema.

IPS (International Prize in Statistics) awarded to David Cox
On 19th October 2016, David Coz was chosen inaugural recipient for IPS award. He is a noted statistician from Britain. His honor is for SAM
(Survival Analysis Model). This model is applied in Science, Engineering and Medicine. He was specifically recognized for his paper in 1982. He
developed the PHM (Proportional Hazards Model) which is used today in his name. Cox Model has been widely used in survival data analysis.
This helps researchers in identifying risks of pertinent mortality factors. Its application ranges in product liability, AIDS Surveillance etc. The
prize money is USD 75000. It is presented yearly by the IPS Foundation.

Robert De-Niro to be given Chaplin Award

Robert De-Niro announced as recipient of 44th Chaplin Award. FSLC (Film Society of Lincoln Center) made the announcement. Robert will
receive the award during a function on 8th May 2017. Robert is a known Italian-American producer and actor. He has acted in more than 100
films. Robert received Best Actor Academy Award in 1980 for Raging Bull. He also received AFI Life Achievement Award, 2003. FSLC is
among most prominent film-presentation bodies. It was established in 1969. It highlights World Cinema & AIC (American Independent Cinema).
The society also supports fresh filmmakers.

C Radhakrishnan to be given Mathrubhumi Literary Award 2016. The decision came on 15th October 2016. This award is given for his
contribution in the literature field. The name was chosen by a panel of novelists. Award comprises of citation, statuette & INR 2 lakh cash prize.

Juan M Santos won 2016-Nobel Peace Award

On 7th October 2016, Juan M Santos won the 2016-Nobel Peace Award. He is the president of Colombia. He brought 50 years of civil war in
Colombia to an end. This war resulted in loss of minimum 220000 Colombian lives. It displaced almost 6 million people. It is among the longest
modern war across the globe. President Santos established peace negotiations between FARC Guerrillas & Colombian government.

greatest works were Blowing in the wind & the times. These became anthems during anti-war & civil rights movement in America. Nobel

47th IFFI event concluded
The 47th IFFI (International Film Festival of India) concluded.The event took place in Goa, India.Ramesh Sippy (Filmmaker) inaugurated the
event.It was held from 20 November to 28 November 2016.South Korean Ambassador, Hyun Cho attended the inauguration.Korea was this
years focus country.More than 300 films from 90 nations were screened.Many new & young filmmakers participated.Special screening of films
from BRICS (film festival) was held.20 award winning short films on Swachh Bharat theme were shown.Opening film was Afterimage, film
from Poland.It was official entry of Poland to 89th Academy Awards.

from El Salvador. Mahmoud A Zeid won from Egypt.These journalists risked their lives & freedom. They report critical events to global

Thai Princess M C Sirindhorn given 1st WSA (World Sanskrit Award)

On 21st November 2016, Maha C Sirindhorn was given first WSA (World Sanskrit Award). She is Thailands princess. Maha received this honor
for her contribution towards Sanskrit promotion in 2015. Another recipient of this award was George Cardona. He is an American linguist &
Indologist. VP Hamid Ansari presented the award to both recipients. ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) instituted the award. Princess
Sirindhorn is Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadejs second daughter.

Six Infosys Prize Winners 2016 Announced

On 18th November 2016, ISF (Infosys Science Foundation) declared six winners. These were winners of the 2016 Infosys Prize. This prize is
given in recognition & celebration of talent. Award recipients are among the best scientists & researchers. The Infosys Prize is successfully
running its 8th consecutive year. Winners are chosen from six categories. These are Humanities, Life Science, Mathematical Science, Social
Science. Others are Physical Science and Engineering & Computer Science. Prizes include INR 65 lacs, citation certification & a 22-karat gold
medallion. Out of total 250 nominations, 6 people have been selected. The winner in E&C division is Professor V Kuamaran. 2016 Winner in the
Humanities section is Professor Sunil Amrith. For Life Science, Professor Gagandeep Kand received the award. Professor Akshay Venkatesh
received award in the Mathematical Sciences category. Physical Sciences category was awarded to Dr. A Bhardwaj. For social science category,
Professor Kaivan Munshi received the award.

Radhika Menon given IMO Award

On 21st November 2016, Radhika Menon was given IMO award in London, UK. IMO (International Maritime Organisation) is given for bravery.
Menon was given this award for rescuing 7 fishermen from sinking (fishing) boat. The incident happened in the BoB (Bay of Bengal) in 2015.
She also became the 1st female who received this award. Menon is Master of OPT (oil products tanker) Sampurna Swarajya. She is Indian
Merchant Navys 1st woman captain. IMO award is given annually by IMO (International Maritime Organisation). It is given to people with
exceptional services in marine environment. 2015 IMO award recipient was Christopher Leon from United States.

On 21st November 2016, Akshaya Mukul received SBFB (Shakti Bhatt First Book) Prize 2016. He received the prize for the book Gita Press &
the Making of Hindu India. Mukul is a senior journalist. He also won best non-fiction prize at RGA (Ramnath Goenka Awards). However,
Mukul boycotted this event. The SBFB was established in 2008 for encouraging authors.

On 12th November 2016, Jackie Chan was awarded Honorary Oscar. He is a noted action-movie star, director, writer & martial artist. He received
the award for his significant achievement in movies. Chan also became the first actor from China to receive this prestigious award. The award
was presented during the 8th AGAa (Annual Governors Awards). Other actors to receive the award were Lynn Stalmaster, Anne Coates &
Frederick Wiseman. The ACAs were established in 1948. They were previously termed as Special Award. It commemorates achievements in
motion pictures not covered in the current awards.

Im Kwon-taek to be honored with LAA (Lifetime Achievement Award)

IFFI 2016 LAA (Lifetime Achievement Award) will be given to Im Kwon-taek. The announcement was made by MV Naidu (I&B Minister) on 1 st
November 2016. Kwon-taek is a known director from South Korea. 47th IFFI (International Film Festival of India) will be held in Goa. IFFI will
be held from 20th November to 28th. Late filmmaker from Poland, Andrzej Wajda will be given special tribute. Another tribute will be to late
filmmaker from Iran Abbas Kiarostami. 47th edition will focus on Korean Movies. Kwon-taek has more than 100 films in his kitty. He also

received Best Director award at CFF (Cannes Film Festival) in 2002.
