Up to Us Participant Agreement

The purpose of this document is to outline expectations for students participating in the Up to Us Campus
Campaign. Please review, sign, and submit this agreement by Friday, September 30, 2016.
Key Definitions
Up to Us is a competition in which each Team plans a Campus Campaign (“Campaign”) designed
to educate students on our nation’s long-term debt, how it could affect their economic
opportunities, and how their generation can have a voice. Campaigns include activities such as:
o Events, such as a speaker, panel, or rally
o Civic Engagement, such as a letter, petition, or visit to lawmakers
o Social Media Activity, which includes a Facebook pledge and online engagement
o Public Visibility, such as Op-Eds, blogs, or external media outreach
o My Two Cents Day, when Teams from across the country work on a unified activity
o Wildcard Activity, when Teams use video, art, events, meetings with elected officials,
etc. to enable a large number of students to learn about the national debt and discuss
potential solutions
Teams are comprised of Team members (“Participants”). Each core Participant in a Team must
sign this agreement to participate in the Up to Us Campaign.
Restrictions on Lobbying and Partisanship
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Net Impact supports nonpartisan educational activities but does not
attempt to directly influence specific legislation. Up to Us Teams and Campaigns must reflect this
position.
Teams cannot incorporate activity around a specific political party or figure, nor can they lobby for
specific legislation. They may, however, contact their elected officials with nonpartisan
messaging.
Use of Funds
Teams may not require groups or individuals to make a purchase or donation in order to enlist as
members or supporters of their campus Campaign.
Teams may not fundraise for their Campaign, nor can they solicit or receive charitable
contributions. However, Teams may solicit in-kind donations (such as gift cards) from businesses.
When requesting donations, Teams must be clear that the donation is being made to them as
students, not to any of the partner organizations or their associated tax ID numbers.
If a Team is participating as part of an established campus group, existing funds of that campus
group may be directed to Up to Us activities. If a Team is partnering on an Up to Us activity with
another campus group that has an existing budget, that campus group may allocate its funds to
support the partner Up to Us activity. Outside of these two cases, Teams may not solicit
additional funds from student administration.
Due to state laws, Teams need to ensure that any contest or raffle that involves prizes can be
entered without purchase or action required.

Use of Campaign funds:
Net Impact will provide Teams up to $1,000 for approved Campaign expenses. Teams can use
these funds to cover costs such as printing, venue fees, or giveaways. They may NOT use these
funds to:
o Pay groups or individuals to enlist as members or supporters of their Campaign
o Hire professional consultants to assist with Campaign strategy
o Direct funds to political parties, candidates, or organizations
Teams must request approval if they intend to purchase items that fall outside the general
printing, event, or giveaway categories.
Teams are required to submit receipts for all expenses incurred in the competition. At the close of
the Campaign, Teams must return all unused funds to Net Impact. All expenses for which no
receipt is available will be considered “unused funds” that need to be returned.
Prize Money
To receive prize money, each Participant must have a valid tax ID number and be at least 18
years old. (Exceptions: if your state of residence if Alabama or Nebraska, you must be at least 19
years old; if your state of residence is Mississippi, you must be at least 21 years old.)
All Team members must be enrolled at the same school. Team prize winnings will be distributed
evenly among eligible core Team members who meet the aforementioned requirements.
Participants receiving prize money or any prizes associated with this Campaign are responsible
for all related tax obligations. Partner Organizations may substitute advertised prizes with other
prizes of equal or greater value. International students without an ITIN are subject to Federal and
California tax withholdings.
Winning Teams can choose to donate their prize money to charity.
Legal Disclaimers
Participants assume any and all risks and waive claims against Net Impact, Peter G. Peterson
Foundation (the “Partner Organizations”), along with each of the officers, directors, employees,
agents, and contractors (collectively, the “Related Parties”) for any injury, death, damage, or loss
of property, revenue, or profits, whether direct, indirect, or consequential, arising from Up to Us
Campaign activities. Up to Us Partner Organizations and Related Parties shall be released from
any liability that may arise from Up to Us activities conducted on or off campus.
Participant understands and agrees that this release will prevent Participant and his or her
successors from bringing a lawsuit, claim or other action against the Partner Organizations or
Related Parties and from recovering monetary damages or other legal relief from a Partner
Organization or Related Party in connection with any of the claims released above.
Participants agree that they will not run contests, competitions, or the like that require unduly
actions that could result in personal injury, death, emotional distress, or other acts that do not
embody the spirit of Partner Organizations.

Expectations of Time and Commitment
Participating Teams will be expected to commit enough time to develop, plan and execute their
Campaigns in the fall term of 2016. To achieve this, Teams must dedicate a minimum of 2-4
hours per week to Up to Us.
Net Impact will pay for Team Leaders to attend the Net Impact Conference from November 3-5,
2016, where they are required to attend a private workshop and relevant conference sessions. If
there is reasonable cause for the Team Leader to miss the conference, a secondary team
representative must attend in the Team Leader’s place.
Conferences
Participants must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel to attend the Net Impact
Conference or any other gathering with a partner organization.
While attending the Net Impact Conference and/or any other gathering with a partner
organization, Participants who are of legal age to consume alcohol agree to do so responsibly.
Team members who are not of legal age to consume alcohol agree to refrain from doing so.
Participants understand that they are representing themselves, their schools, and the partner
organizations of Up to Us, and that their behavior at the Net Impact Conference or any other
gathering should reflect that of responsible, young adults.
