Indian Constitution

Constitution is the foundational law of a country which ordains the fundamental
principles on which the government of a country is based. It lays down the framework of
the principal functions of the various organs of the government as well as the modalities
of interaction between government and its citizens. Except United Kingdom all other
democratic countries have a written constitution.
The constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 th November
1949 and it came into full operation with effect from 26 th January ,1950. India’
constitution is the world’s largest written constitution. The originally adopted
constitution had 22 parts, 365 articles and 8 schedules and these are amended
from time to time.
Constituent Assembly and Making of Constitution
The Cabinet Mission – formed by Lord Atlee , envisaged for the formation of the
Constituent Assembly to frame the Constituent Assembly of the country.
