Method statement for chipping work inside the Lift Shaft by using Lift

1. Shaft work permit must be taken from NMX before commence the

work and also inform to the third party (KONE), supervisor should
ensure this.
2. The area below is to be cordoned off, and a watcher (having high
visible jacket and whistle) positioned to stop entering others to the
cordoned area.(If required)
3. Over head protection should be provided for the workers.(If required)
4. Adequate lighting and ventilation should be provided inside the shaft.
5. Foreman/supervisor to ensure that all people involved shall wear
safety harness and anchored to a strong point.
6. Working platform must be protected with guardrail (Top rail 1.1m &
Midrail 0.765m) and toe board (Min. 150mm height), and there is no
gap in the working platform.
7. Only authorised person allowed to operating the Lift (KONE
Personnel).
8. Park the Lift on the working level and climb the person to the top of
the Lift through manhole safely (use ladder).
9. Person who doing the work must wear required PPE (Goggles, mask,
ear plug, hand gloves etc)
10. All the tools (hand tools/power tools) must be checked for damages.
Damaged tools must not be used for the task.
11. Do not allow the chipping waste to go down, and after complete the
work remove all the debris from the working platform immediately.
12. Never allow to travel on the top of the Lift.

Note: Remember safety harness is only for restrain not for fall and PPE
is always a last resort.
