The Golden Arrow Awards, established by MPRC in 1990, honor excellence and provide a forum for exhibiting exemplary work, promoting public recognition of high quality communications, and gaining corporate and client recognition for public relations.

1. Annual Reports
Publications that report on an organizationʼs annual performance.
How to prepare your entry
Entries should be originals whenever possible, except for irreplaceable items (for such items, submit clear photocopies). Slides of entries are not acceptable. All entries should be submitted in binders/notebooks no larger than 9 x 12, and all supporting materials must ﬁt inside the binder (for shipping purposes). Each entry needs a separate binder. MPRC reserves the right to reject entries that do not adhere to this standard. Binders should be properly labeled on the inside cover or back and should include the title of the entry, name of entrant, organization and entry category. A copy of the entry form and challenge statement should be included in the front pocket of the binder. Supporting documentation, such as press clippings, news footage, printed material pertinent, and photographs should be included in the binder with the entry. An envelope with a copy of the entry form and your check should accompany the entry. In the case of online PayPal payment, please print out the receipt and include. Please include a copy of your companyʼs logo (300 dpi JPEG format) on a CD with your entry. Entries should be delivered to: Garrand, 75 Washington Avenue, Portland, ME 04101. All entries must be received no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, August 6th, 2010.
Internal or external publications that are published periodically.
3. Informational/Technical Writing
Position papers, fact sheets, backgrounders, features, guest columns. Any single example of outstanding expository writing. Please submit typed, double spaced on white paper.
Web sites, Intranets, online newsletters, interactive software, email campaigns. Materials should be submitted on CD and/or as URL on entry form. Web sites will be viewed between 8/15 and 9/15. If site is not accessible when judges attempt to view it, the entry will be disqualiﬁed.
Videos, PowerPoint presentations, PSAs. Video entries must be on VHS or DVD with full script and running time included. PowerPoints must be on CD-ROM with supporting materials.
Writing a challenge statement
The challenge statement is the story behind the entry. A challenge statement, limited to one typewritten page, must accompany each entry. Judges heavily weigh measurable results achieved within budget parameters. Include the following information in your challenge statement: Objectives. An explanation of the speciﬁc objective(s) that guided the project. Situation Analysis. A description of the factors in the marketplace or organization, or research conducted that helped identify the problem or need for this project. Methods. The strategy, techniques and resources used to achieve the stated objectives. Please include budget parameters where appropriate. Results. How the objectives were met, and how the results were measured (e.g. column inches of print, exposure, event attendance, research results, client satisfaction, increased membership, web site trafﬁc, increased readership).
6. Media Relations
Press releases, media advisories, pitch letters, press kits, press conference materials.
Pro bono communications materials and/or strategy to create awareness and support for a worthy cause or non-proﬁt organization.
8. Communications Campaign
Combinations of outreach pieces including press releases, brochures, special events, etc. aimed at either internal or external audiences.
9. Special Events
Open houses, observances, celebrations, fundraisers, etc.
10. Odds and Ends
Anything not represented in the above categories including posters, direct mail, promotional items, magazines, etc.
All Maine-based communications professionals, regardless of client location, are invited to enter the 2010 Golden Arrow Awards. All entries must be public relations/communications work created, produced and implemented for speciﬁc goals during the eligibility period of July 30, 2009 through July 30, 2010. There is no limit to the number of entries or categories an organization or agency may enter. Each entry may be submitted in only one category, with the exception that any entered piece may also be submitted as part of a campaign.
11. Student Entry
Full-time students at an accredited Mainebased college or university can submit in any of the above categories.
