ADVENTURES
IN ATLANTIS
BY WHEELIAM TIBERIUS TRASH WHEEL

ARRIVAL
It was time for a vacation. I had spent two long years
protecting Baltimore's harbor from an onslaught of trash
and I needed a break. I had found a broken-down
submarine the year before. After several weekends of
hard at work, the machine was in working condition. I was
ready for a test run.
A fishy friend of mine had drawn me a map to the lost city
of Atlantis some months ago. It seemed like the perfect
destination for a little bit of adventuring. I set off with a
bunch of snacks and my teddy bear, excited for whatever
awaited me ahead.
Deep in the Kermadec Trench, I found my destination.
Atlantis glittered before me. My submarine docked in
one of the many entry ports to the city. Inside, the sea
creatures swirled past the clear glass hallways. You could
see the entire ocean around you. Upon my arrival, a group
of native Atlantians greeted me. At the head of the
welcoming committee, much to my surprise, was Jack
Dawson.

JACKIE BOY
"OH. MY. SWEET. JIBBERS!" I cried fanboying all over
myself. "I sobbed for DAYS after watching Titanic for the
first time. How did you survive?"
Jack Dawson offered to explain everything over tea. "Or
perhaps plastic riddled trash water? I have the best in the
Pacific," he proffered with his charismatic grin. This was
definitely shaping up to be the perfect vacation.
Jackie Boy, I can now call him because we are BFFs, told me
his story. When the rescuers found Rose, she left his corpse
in the water. She had not realized that he was not yet dead.
This did not surprise me. She had also failed to realize that if
she moved over they both could have gotten out of the
freezing cold water. Though that is a rant for another time.
Jack woke up days later in Atlantis after mermaids rescued
him. "They nursed me back to life and made me their
guest/prisoner. I'm supposed to show our guests around,
though it has been ever so long since we had a visitor. Would
you like a tour?" Jack asked, "or perhaps a meal? Or a swim?"

THE TOUR
I accepted Jack's offer for a tour and he hailed a cab for us.
The carriage was a beautiful conch shell drawn by two
magnificent seahorses. The creatures pulled us at a frantic
pace turning our surroundings into a whirl of blue and green.
Our first stop was the electric eel laser show. The eels were
far larger than any sea animal I had seen before. Their razor
sharp teeth glinted in the bright lights that emitted from
their bodies. It was terrifying but in a good way.
After the performance, Jack took me meet Sharkira. She was
the most popular pop star in Atlantis. I was in awe of the
lovely shark as was I entranced by her singing.
After our audience, we walked over to Atlantis' grand
theater. When we arrived there was a grand underwater
ballet underway. Jack was so moved, he decided to join in.
He took a gulp of air and jumped into the tank with the
performers. Deep in the water, his hands flailed and his body
contorted in time with the elegant fish. If I had hands I would
not have been able to contain my applause after such a
display.

PREPARE FOR BATTLE
Jack was about to show me the "cave of wonders" when a
large alarm went off. "MAN THE BATTLE STATIONS!" an
Atlantian cried running past us.
Atlantis was under attack by Ursula the Sea Witch and an
army of sharks with laser beams. "Atlantis is mine!" she
bellowed. "You will pay for what you did!" Jack and the
Atlantians engaged in valiant combat but they were no
match for her. "You have to do something," Jack said in
desperation, "Atlantis needs you."
I sent a message to the opposing side to arrange a meeting
to talk over the terms of our surrender. I needed to better
understand my opponents to craft a cunning plan. I rode to
meet Ursula on a fine dolphin steed, dressed for battle.
"Why are you attacking this fair city?" I asked.
Ursula explained to me that her home had become Atlantis'
new dumping ground. Atlantis didn't recycle and produced
more trash than a hundred ocean liners. Her story shocked
me into action. "You have my sword," I said to her. (I didn't
have a sword but I have always wanted to use that line.)

VICTORY
I joined Ursula and the sharks in planning the final attack on
Atlantis. A messenger interrupted us with a note smuggled
out of the city from Jack. Atlantis was going to use a
powerful weapon to destroy Ursula, her army, and most of
the sea life in the area. Jack had worked on the weapon and
had left a weakness in the thermal exhaust port. He wanted
us to destroy it before it destroyed the ocean surrounds.
We sent a squadron of our best hammerhead sharks to bring
down the weapon. Their courageous efforts destroyed the
doomsday machine and brought us victory. Ursula declared
herself queen of Atlantis. Her first order of business was to
ban all plastics and styrofoam from the city. Jack was set
free and left the city to become a major film star. He
promised to be an environmental advocate for the rest of his
days.
The Atlantians gave me the key to the city. They begged me
to stay and lead them but I declined. For Atlantis, in all its
splendor could never be as wonderful as my home. I hopped
back into my submarine and entered in my home
coordinates. I couldn't wait to see the Baltimore city skyline
once more.
