Project Title: Cascade River Wayside Restoration: Phase 4
Project Description: The grantee proposes to restore the Cascade River Wayside according to
Secretary of the Interior's Standards. Specifically, the grantee intends to
restore the portion of the structure which becomes the bridge and stone rail
over the Cascade River, including concrete work, stone curb and walkway,
pedestrian railing, overlook trail and stone steps to lake, guardrail
replacement, and cleaning/resetting of original bridge plaque.

Grantee: Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
Project Title: Split Rock River Superior Hiking Trail Bridge Replacement
Project Description: The grantee proposes to replace the existing, structurally-deficient wood
bridge over the West Branch of the Split Rock River. The recommended
replacement is a pre-manufactured fiberglass bridge, which will provide
long-term stability with minimal future maintenance.

Project Title: A Coastal Atlas for Lake Superior’s North Shore
Project Description: The grantee proposes to create a coastal atlas that consolidates social,
economic, and environmental data for townships and municipalities within
the coastal boundary. The atlas will be a print-copy resource comprising of
map plates of fundamental data for each individual township or
municipality. In addition to hard copies, the coastal atlas will be delivered
on-line in PDF format, using the existing CoastalGIS website.

Grantee: City of Hermantown
Project Title: City of Hermantown Water Quality/Wetland Management GIS Project
Project Description: The grantee proposes to create a series of data sets and GIS maps that will
(1) reduce the time required to prepare the Minnesota Routine Assessment
Method (MnRAM) for evaluating the functions and values of wetlands; (2)
assist land owners and the City in evaluating proposed wetland impacts; and
(3) provide input to the land use permitting process.

Grantee: Department of Natural Resources – Parks and Trails
Project Title: Ray Berglund State Wayside – Visitor Facilities
Project Description: The grantee proposes to improve the Ray Berglaund State Wayside by: (1)
constructing public restroom and visitor orientation facilities; (2) building a
stairway to connect the parking lot to trails within the wayside; and (3)
installing safety railings.

Grantee: City of Duluth
Project Title: GPS Survey and Realignment of Sanitary and Storm Water Structures in
Duluth’s GIS
Project Description: The grantee proposes to collect approximately 14,000 GPS points of the
City’s storm and sanitary sewer structures and align the existing storm and
sanitary GIS data to those points.

Grantee: Lake Superior Maritime Museum Association
Project Title: Lake Superior Shipwreck Exhibit
Project Description: The grantee proposes to create a new exhibit on the shipwrecks of Lake
Superior. The exhibit will highlight the Thomas Wilson, a whaleback
freighter that sank just off the Duluth Harbor entry on June 7, 1902.

Grantee: St. Louis River Alliance for the Regional Stormwater Protection Team
Project Title: 2011 Lake Superior Watershed Festival
Project Description: The grantee proposes to host the 2011 Lake Superior Watershed Festival, a
biennial outdoor event that includes exhibits, entertainment and educational
activities centered on protecting Lake Superior and the St. Louis River.

Grantee: Department of Natural Resources – Parks and Trails Division
Project Title: Lax Lake Fishing Pier
Project Description: The grantee proposes to purchase and construct an ADA-compliant, floating
fishing pier at the state-owned public access on the north end of Lax Lake in
the Finland State Forest.

Grantee: Arrowhead Regional Development Commission
Project Title: Cascade River Design Project
Project Description: The grantee proposes to improve the Cascade River pull-off along the North
Shore Scenic Drive by: (1) creating professional designs for improved
recreational access and parking; and (2) developing an interpretive strategy
that includes a new kiosk, strategically located signs, and improved displays.

Project Title: St. Louis River Trail – Phase 3
Project Description: The grantee proposes to complete historical and environmental reviews;
land appraisals; and right-of-way acquisition along the final 4.0-mile section
of the St. Louis River Trail.

Project Title: Developing a Diagnostic Tool for Assessing Excessive Sediment Harm to
Stream Communities
Project Description: The grantee proposes to develop a suite of metrics using stream macro-
invertebrate community condition specific to fine sediment deposition. The
end result will be a tool that allows water quality managers to determine if
sediments are causing biological impairments in streams.

Grantee: City of Silver Bay
Project Title: Land Use and Planning Guidelines for Eco-Industrial Development for
Coastal Regions
Project Description: The grantee proposes to develop land use and planning guidelines for the
Silver Bay Eco-Park. These guidelines will not only promote, enhance, and
manage business/industrial development in the City, but be applicable to
other coastal communities.
