Forming the Remnant?
The remnant shall be a humble and lowly people.
God chose those who count for nothing. (1 Corinthians)
Jesus proclaims the Beatitudes. (Matthew)
Four centuries before Jesus, the Chinese philosophy
of Lao Tzu inspired the
world with these words:
“When I let go of what I am,
I become what I might be.”
Today the Beatitudes invite us to “become what we
might be.” That is really good news for us.
If you are poor, sad, afraid, and hungry, don’t worry
about it. Jesus will fill you with riches, make you
happy, calm your fears, and feed you with the
bread of life.
After concluding the "Year of Mercy," hopefully we
have become more merciful to others. In that way
we have become cleaner of heart. Living in the face
of ever-present wars and conflicts, we really must
become peacemakers. We must be willing to stand
up for our faith, put our lives on the line. We must
be willing to face persecution, ridicule, and even a
martyr’s death. We must be willing to let go of who
we are so that we can become what we might be
