Thesis source evaluation

Thesis: Dietrich Bonhoeffer took a stand and performed public radio announcements against the
Nazi control and also was active in planning assassination attempts against Adolf Hitlers life.

For many years throughout the early 1900s, the jewish population was dehumanized and
tortured by the expanding Nazi control lead by Adolf Hitler. There were many people that
opposed Hitler, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was German, was one of them. Dietrich
Bonhoeffer took a stand and performed public radio announcements against the Nazi control. He
also was active in planning assassination attempts against Adolf Hitlers life. Through Dietrich
Bonhoeffers attempts to overthrow the Nazi control, he was frequently banned and restricted
from performing certain tasks like his radio announcements.
There are many sources that will describe how Dietrich Bonhoeffer took action against
the Nazi regime. One of these sources that will be included is Victoria Barnetts article Dietrich
Bonhoeffers Ecumenical Vision which is a secondary source that will show how he took a
stand against the Nazi regime despite the possible consequences. Another source that will be
used is an article titled Dietrich Bonhoeffer that illustrates a timeline of Bonhoeffers life and
will possibly even show how events throughout his life changed his viewpoints and actions.
Similar to this source, "The Ambiguous Witness Of Dietrich Bonhoeffer" shows how Bonhoeffer
was very intelligent in his works and what he was fighting for. This will help in the argument for
the claim because it shows that Dietrich Bonhoeffer was very knowledgeable in his works which

may be one on the causes to him gaining public support in the opposition towards the Nazi
regime. Another source that will be used is "Renate wind Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A spoke in the
wheel" which is a primary source by Dietrich Bonhoeffer which is a transcript his radio
announcements warning people about the dangers of the Nazi control. The primary sources will
dramatically strengthen the argument by showing precisely what Bonhoeffer was doing and
possibly even why he chose to do some of these actions. Dietrich Bonhoeffer also wrote a book
titled Letters and Papers from Prison while he was imprisoned in Germany. This book does not
directly correlate to the holocaust, but it rather poses questions and possible answers connecting
to his theological studies. This will help strengthen the claim because it will show what Dietrich
Bonhoeffer was thinking while in prison and further emphasize his beliefs.
The thesis will be shown through a website, which will be divided into different sections
based on the actions taken by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. One of the actions that was taken by Dietrich
Bonhoeffer was his frequent radio announcements. Another is the assassination attempt on
Adolph Hitler that Bonhoeffer and others planned. Primary sources of Bonhoeffers radio
announcements and secondary sources of the assassination attempt will show how Bonhoeffer
took a stand against the rising Nazi control.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a protestant theologian that urged the conformation to
Christianity. His thinking lead him to become the leader of a confessing church in Germany
which later declared its opposition to Nazism. This shows how Dietrich Bonhoeffer took
leadership to show his views against the Nazi regime. Dietrich Bonhoeffer later created a plot to
assassinate Adolf Hitler as an extreme measure of trying to act on what he thought was a corrupt
political leader.

events. This source will help by setting tone of what the time period was like for Bonhoeffer in

Dietrich Bonhoeffer played a very important role in the resistance against Adolf Hitler
and his military power. Their is no prediction what today would be like if Deitrich Bonhoeffer
were to have survived to lead the ruins of Europe. When Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed by
the Nazis, it was stated that he died brave to the will of God. This will be helpful because it will
show how Bonhoeffer led in the resistance and will show how without his actions and leadership,
todays society will not be the same.

This source shows how Deitrich Bonhoeffers books and theologies continue to captivate
the minds of people, even 65 years after his death. One of these people is Ferdinand

Schlingensiepen, who was amazingly familiar with Dietrich Bonhoeffer and even wrote a book
trying to understand him. This will help with the argument for Deitrich Bonhoeffer because it
will show how after his actions and leadership, their were everlasting effects on those who try to
understand him.

This article gives descriptive explanations of what Dietrich Bonhoeffer was before Adolf
Hitler was elected chancellor. Dietrich Bonhoeffer did not follow the common beliefs of other
pastors which put him in more danger. He also was testing the limits of Nazi opposition and
making radio announcements about his opposition. Dietrich Bonhoeffer also was very active
with others in plotting the assassination of Hitler, none of which were actually successful. This
will be useful in the argument because it will show how Deitrich Bonhoeffer was taking dramatic
action in attempting to assassinate the leader of the Nazi army in response to the oppression of
many of his people.

Early on, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote Akt und Sein, which translates to Act and Being. He
wrote about how he was against those who wished to reduce Christianity to a philosophy of
transcendence or of being. Dietrich Bonhoeffer also wrote the book Ethics in which Bonhoeffer
takes a negative view of Roman Catholic ethics. This article will help in showing what Dietrich
Bonhoeffers morals were and what ethics he truly believed. This will also help when describing
the assassination attempt on Hitler because it will provide more clues as to what Dietrich
Bonhoeffer was really fighting for.

This source is showing how Deitrich Bonhoeffer was very intelligent within his family
and received his doctorate in theology. He commonly used his knowledge in theology when he
was determining the purposes and roles in government politics. This will help in the argument
for the claim because it shows that Dietrich Bonhoeffer was very knowledgeable in his works

which may be one on the causes to him gaining public support in the opposition towards the Nazi
regime.

In this source, Dietrich Bonhoeffer is giving a public radio announcement criticizing the
new elected chancellor and is warning the German people that a man who popularizes himself
cannot be trusted. This radio announcement was later cut off before he could finish. This will
support the claim because it shows that Dietrich Bonhoeffer is bravely taking a stand against the
new German ruler even though the consequences could be drastic.
