We are learning and practicing counting back by 1s from any given number on a number line.

Students can estimate small number

Start lesson with Mathematic warm up games (10 15 mins)

Engaging Activity:
First get on Sunshine online click on the Number Party.
Then play Splat numbers: Counting back
Classroom management strategy:
Ensuring the students is paying attention. Encourage students to engage by using countdown to get their
attention. When students are doing or listening to the given instruction aware them by adding a Jellybean in the
classroom Jellybean Jar. During the activity, when students are on task and working together, ask each of the
students to add a Jellybean in the Jar. However, if students are misbehaving remove on Jellybean from the
classroom jar.

Brief description:
Having a class discussion when do we need to count backwards? When we count backwards what happens? The aim of this discuss is
to get the students to understand the fact that when we count backwards the number gets smaller.
Group activity:
Grab out the class large number line and place it on the floor, gather the students around it and demonstrate counting backwards by one
(before), two or three places. Choose a volunteer, give the student a given number and ask he or she circle the number, roll the dice and
ask he or she to identify the number on the dice and count back from that number. Choose a different student and repeat the activity for
at least three times.

Task: Count back on a number line: One student should circle number on the number line for their partner to count back from until they
say stop. Students should swap over rolls throughout the activity.
Explain the task to the students; they are to play the same activity we play as a class but in pair. Divide students into pair or have the
students to find a partner. Once the students had form a group or pair, they need to collect their white board marker, cloth and one
number line each.
Differentiate the task:
Task for students who are below Foundation level:
Students to complete the above activity, but on a number line up to 10.
Task for students who are in between Foundation and Level 1:
They are to complete the above activity, but on a number line up to 30.
Task for students who are at level 1:
Students to complete the above activity, but with a hundreds chart.

Closure (10 mins)


Brief description:
Give students 5 mins warning. Once the five minutiae are up, gather students attention and ask them to finishes up what they were doing pack. Get them to come and sit on the floor in pair,
each pairs will have the opportunity to share their finding. Once the class completed their learn and share time get them to find a partner and line up at the door, we are going to the Library.
