CONFLICT AND NEGOTIATIONS IN ORGANISATIONS

MAIN THEME OF THE ROLE PLAY:

MEANING:

Now-a-days conflicts are common in every organisation it might be due to


disagreement over a subject goal or a strategy or on the means to achieve them. Conflict is
also directly related with the perception of the individuals. When the conflict is between two
groups then it is called inter group conflict.

These conflicts can be settled through negotiations. Negotiations can be done in two ways:

Distributive Bargaining
Integrative Bargaining

Process of negotiations

Negotiations can be dependent on the following:

Individual personality traits


Mood and emotions of the individuals
Gender of individuals

ISSUES DISCUSSED IN PRESENTATION:

Scenario plan:

Scene 1

In a recruitment company a new boss is been appointed and he is discussing about the
changes in recruitment process for different domains. The manager tells him that till now
there are no particular teams for US and Indian shifts and even the recruitment process is not
assigned according to individual projects. He decides to implement some changes in the
organisation structure.

Scene 2

He meets with the team and decides that there will be two teams one for US shifts and the
other for Indian shifts and there projects will be decided accordingly. Listening to this many
people got disappointed because they were not adopted to work in this type of culture.

Scene 3

Indian shifts, the employees in the Indian shifts were not that friendly initially and had many
conflicts but Mr.Dheeraj who was one of them acted as an informal leader of the group and
everyone followed his instructions as he took major work and distributed the work among the
employees and coordinated among them and as he was hard working every one worked hard.
And he used to solve the conflicts among his co-workers.

Scene 4

US Shift

There were conflicts between people with lack of co-ordination and their projects were
delayed and they were unable to achieve the targets on time. As the employees in the team
one was a hard worker who used to finish all his work with in the deadline, and two of them
free riders.

Scene 5

Boss is consulting the two teams and confronting and telling them that the targets were not
achieved by two teams compared to Indian team. And U.S shifts needs to improve so that the
other team mates of the US shift team mates blamed MR. Sandeep for the mistakes.
MR Sandeep is very disturbed and he is thinking of quitting the job as he was one of the hard
worker in the US shift and other two were bullying him. MR.Sandeep sent his resignation to
the boss

Scene 6

The boss called MR.Sandeep for the negotiations. But unfortunately the negotiations were not
successful and finally Sandeep left his job.
