TheFutureofClassicalMusic
In order for classical music to stay relevant to the audience of the 21st
century, several steps must be taken to change the way we present
classicalmusic.

Wehavetoredefinewhatclassicalmusicis.Inourmindsandinthe
minds of people in the outside world classical music means the old
masterworks, Bach and Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms. We have to

Howcanweunlockourcreative
voice?

Research shows that our current systems of early education are killing
creativity.Weoftenpunishchildrenformakingmistakesanddiscourage
them from being different. Current education emphasizes imitation,
memorization, fixed rules, and preestablished formulas and beliefs
aboutthewaytheworldshouldwork.

Researchersfoundthatnormaldailyactivitiescanactuallyfacilitatethe
discoveryofnewinsight,newknowledgeandnewmeansofexpressing
ideas in different ways. Creative moments often happen when players
hum to themselves, tap out rhythms on the table or imagine dance

There are four key ingredients to achieving creative expression in

performance. These are freedom, flexibility, a sense of being in the
momentandacommitmentto"giving"themusictoanaudience,evenif
thataudienceonlyexistsinthemusician'simagination.

Creativity, requires a willingness to make and accept mistakes. One

barrier which limits the musicians motivation to be creative, is feeling

Musicians begin to make a piece their own when they feel free and
