This is a textbook on an increasingly recognised modality used in medical and therapeutic settings. The
author argues that clinical hypnosis offers an effective and potentially low cost way to deal with many bad
habits and problems, such as smoking, fears and phobias. She claims that successful self-management
techniques for, among others, pain and skin conditions can be a means of enhancing a client's positive
behaviours and thoughts, and increasing their self esteem.

Extra Tips on Learning Hypnosis:

*In these books you will find techniques on how to hypnotize yourself and others... the most important aspect is
figuring out for yourself the best methods that work for you.
*Experience helps you most and it's fun to practice! Practicing proven methods like from the books above will
enable you to get true hypnotic results from people you work with.
*If you can guide yourself into hypnosis... you can show someone else the way. Just as if you would direct a
person in a town they'd never been in, street by street, turn by turn is how the hypnotic process can be induced.
This is why I find self-hypnosis to be such an important part to any hypnotist's experience and training.

Whats the best book on hypnosis?

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091214091058AApdkxe

1) The Ronning Guide to Modern Stage Hypnosis, by Geoff Ronning. An excelent book on starting your
own comedy hypnosis buissiness.

2) The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism, by Ormond McGill. A veritable tome that not only will
teach you everything you ever need to know about hypnosis, but also some stuff you may not :). A
fabulous resource, although he does harbor some more experimental views on certain hypnotic
phenomena (don't let this put you off though, just follow his instructions and it will work!)

I own both books, and cannot recommend them enough. If you are still deciding which style to adopt, I'd
recommend both. They compliment each other well.

Roy Hunter's The Art of Hypnosis: Mastering Basic Techniques is required reading on some hypnosis
courses and covers how to hypnotise, but is perhaps focused more towards therapists.
Ormond McGill's The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism is very comprehensive on stage hypnosis. It
gives many hypnosis techniques, but doesn't go into the basics quite as much as Roy's book.

10 Books Every Hypnotist Should Read

http://trancedout.com/blog/10-books-every-hypnotist-should-read/

The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormond McGill

This book is truly an encyclopedia which includes not only a wealth of information about Stage Hypnosis
but a whole variety of techniques and principles that are applicable to any hypnosis situation. This book
includes information about how hypnosis works, hypnotic principles that apply to any situation, a whole
chapter dedicated to 100 ways to getting someone into hypnosis, and it even shows you how to
hypnotize a chicken. Note: Even those hypnotists who are not interested in doing any stage work should
read this book! Take my word for it, it is one of the best out there.

Hypnotherapy by Dave Elman

Elman was a pioneer in the art of medical hypnosis, and this historical classic explores not only the Dave
Elman Induction, but shows a wealth of other hypnotic techniques like using hypnosis as an adjunct to
chemical anesthesia, as a tool for impotence and frigidity, and using hypnosis to eliminate stuttering. Its
worth it to read this book just to get inside the mind of one of the legendary hypnotists of the past, as
well as learn a lot of useful techniques.

19
BEST BOOKS ON HYPNOSIS - 20170218

Uncommon Therapy by Jay Haley

This book quite simply blows my mind. Jay Haley provides a detailed account of Ericksonian hypnosis,
and tells quite a few stories of how Milton Erickson performed his work. This is where youll find a lot of
the examples of how to interact with a person, as well as information breaking down the structure of
that communication and demystifying it so that you can use it. If you are a person who hopes to do any
sort of therapy or coaching or to help people in their lives using hypnosis, this book is an absolute gold-
mine of information.

The Ronning Guide to Modern Stage Hypnosis by Geoff Ronning

If youre in for the par to learn stage hypnosis or want to be a professional stage hypnotist, I suggest
checking out this book. Geoffrey Ronning has put together a very comprehensive guide on specifically
how to perform a stage hypnosis show, how to get bookings, what happens if it all goes wrong, and tons
of motivation. Although this book is mostly for stage hypnotists and its content is geared 90% towards
that audience, if you do street hypnosis or even if you are just looking for a good suggestibility test to
add onto your repetiore, this book will fulfill those needs.

Influence by Robert Cialdini

I do believe Ive quoted this book about a hundred times in instructing various events and seminars over
the years. Cialdini was a guy who always fell for scams; if someone showed up and gave him a fancy
sales pitch, he had to buy it. He got very curious as to why he always fell for these gambits, and began a
length research procedure which now has been very well documented in his book. Most hypnotists have
probably already read this book, but if you havent, order a copy. Its very interesting reading.

20
BEST BOOKS ON HYPNOSIS - 20170218

Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria by Don Gibbons

https://www.amazon.com/dp/0595124763/ref=as_sl_pd_tf_lc?tag=hypnosinyccen-

5XWPQQX1&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.healthwithhypnosis.com%2FHYPNOSIS-BOOKS-
HYPNOSIS-CD%2F

Probably my second most quoted book is this one, and usually Ill just reference the book and tell people
to go get it. This book by Don Gibbons is an accurate and realistic portrayal of what hypnosis is and what
it isnt. He talks about how hypnosis has been associated with sleep over the years, and how
hyperempiria is actually the opposite of that, but that we use essentially the same process to get people
into both states. As a bonus for this book, you learn how to take people into hyperempiric states of
consciousness which can be very fun to play with. Im always surprised at how many hypnotists havent
even heard of hyperempiria or some of the other states that we have available to us. This is a must-
read.

Reframing by Richard Bandler and John Grinder

Reframing is a critical part of working with people and yet some of us know so little about it. A callers
objections or a clients misperceptions both have to be reframed and put into their proper light. People
who are talented in the art of reframing are perceived as smarter, they make more money, and their
clients have better results. This book shows you how to do it, along with giving you lots of techniques
and understandings. It is a transcript of a live seminar that Bandler and Grinder did, but do not be
fooled, this is one amazing book. I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson, M.D., by John Grinder, Judith
DeLozier, and Richard Bandler
Another great book by Bandler and Grinder, this one also by Judith DeLozier, is the book that introduced
the concept of the Milton Model in NLP. If youre not familiar, Richard Bandler and John Grinder spent 9
21

months studying Milton Erickson and watching his videotapes. The very core essence of his patterns,
called the Milton Model, is now taught in 1 day in NLP practitioner trainings. Theres two volumes to the
series, and they are both great, although difficult to get through. Its not light reading, but I think its
time well spent. Great book.

My Voice Will Go With You by Sidney Rosen

The subtitle of this book is The Teaching Tales of Milton Erickson and this one can be a lot of fun to
read. These are some of the stories that Erickson used to tell people when hypnotizing them or before
hypnotizing them. If you want to be fascinated with just how smart this guy was, read a couple of his
stories and you might find yourself drifting off. Erickson was amazing at metaphor and relating concepts
together, and Sidney Rosen does a fantastic job in this book cutting to the core of what we want to
know. This should be in your library!

Trancework by Michael Yapko

Trancework is a comprehensive guide to learning the fundamentals of clinical hypnosis. Although Yapko
is mostly an Ericksonian-style hypnotist, he provides step-by-step instructions for getting things done in
hypnosis. The book is also grounded firmly in research and pragmatism, and provides a great
introduction to the art of hypnosis which you should re-read every couple of years to find out what you
missed the first time.

My rare hypnosis books

Transforming Therapy by Gil Boyne. I trained with Gil just before he died, and really like his style. He
blends an excellent understanding of hypnosis (he loved his rapid inductions) with gestalt therapy and
great emotional work. His case studies (some are in the book) are absolutely fascinating for their efficiency
and results.

Open to Suggestion, by Robert Temple. This was one of the first hypnosis books I got really stuck into.
Temple is a layman, a hypnosis enthusiast, who basically researches and explores various areas and
reports on them. His intrigue and enthusiasm are contagious, if youre curious about hypnosis then hes
done all the work for you. It wont teach you much about inductions but it gives a great overview of its
uses and the nature of suggestibility.

Hypnotic Realities, by Milton Erickson. Milton was studied intensely during the development of NLP but
I find his books are much richer than the distilled versions that Bandler and Grinder put out. I would
rather learn from the transcripts, and the intents behind them, than the raw, clinical language patterns
which can seem a bit pithy out of context. Ericksons works are brilliant.

Wake Up And Live, by Dorothea Brande. Not specifically about hypnosis, but a core feature of hypnosis
lies is at the apex of this book. Its an excellent and relevant wake up call to living without fear of failure, and the
positive benefits of doing so.

Findings in Hypnosis, by Dave Elman. Dave Elman was a true master he somehow had an innate
awareness for how suggestion worked and was able to wield it in really interesting ways, whilst always
being down to earth and humble about it. He covers waking suggestion, somnambulism, therapy with
ease, and has a really infectious enthusiasm.

This retro-oddity isnt a book, but a spinning hypnosis spiral. To see the blurb that was written to go along
with it, see the hypnosis spirals page here.

29
BEST BOOKS ON HYPNOSIS - 20170218

This book was the start of ideo-motor signalling being used as an indicator of subconscious processes.

Andrew Newton trained Paul McKenna, which means nothing really. Andrew is pretty scathing of Paul
McKenna in this book, saying that he hates his audiences. An interesting book though, very down to earth.

Hi, Im the author of Learn Hypnosis Now!, Michael Stevenson

Welcome to my website, Hypnosis Books Online. With this site, and my other, LearnHypnosisNow.com, I
hope you can find great references to hypnosis and learn this fascinating skill.
When I quit a terrible smoking habit years ago using a self-hypnosis tape I bought at the county fair, I
become instantly hooked. I thought for sure that you must have a degree or some other secret
knowledge to learn how to hypnotize people. Countless trips to the library and bookstore yielded little
or no results. It took years of research and training to learn this wonderful skill which literally saved my
life!. While hypnosis might not save your life, it will definitely change it. Good luck on your journey, and
most of all, enjoy every step of the way.

Self-Hypnosis

The Complete Idiots Guide to Hypnosis by Roberta Temes

Although the title is a bit misleading (its really mostly about self-hypnosis or auto-hypnosis), this is a good
introduction to hypnosis and what you can expect as the subject of a trance state.
Hypnosis for Change by Josie Hadley, Carol Staudacher
A good hypnosis-centric self help book.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

The Magic of NLP Demystified: A Pragmatic Guide to Communication and Change by Byron A.
Lewis, et al
This book by Byron Lewis does a fantastic job of breaking the utterly complex field of NLP down into
comprehendable chunks.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming: Volume I by Robert Dilts, John Grinder, Richard Bandler, and Judith
DeLozier
The book that first introduced the collected techniques called NLP. Its a very dry

book, but is essential reading once you have a firm grasp on NLP. I would not, however, recommend
reading this as your first NLP book (a mistake many make).
Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson Volume I by Richard Bandler and John
Grinder
The books that started it all, when it comes to hypnosis and NLP these are the first published works on
hypnotherapy in the infancy of NLP.
Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson Volume II by Richard Bandler and John
Grinder
The books that started it all, when it comes to hypnosis and NLP these are the first published works on
hypnotherapy in the infancy of NLP.
The
Structure of Magic Volume I by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
The books that started it all these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
The
Structure of Magic Volume II by Richard Bandler and John Grinder
The book that started it all these are the first published works in the infancy of NLP.
The
Sourcebook of Magic by L. Michael Hall
An excellent reference, cataloging and categorizing all of the known (at the time) patterns and techniques
under the therapeutic NLP umbrella.
Modeling
with NLP by Robert Dilts
While NLP is commonly thought of as a collection of therapeutic/sales/influence/rapport techniques,
what really made it all possible, at the center of the field, was the modelling of successful people. In this
book, Robert Dilts discusses the NLP way of acquiring skills from other peoples success.
Changing
Belief Systems by Robert Dilts
An interesting book that looks at the structure of peoples beliefs and how we can use NLP to change
impoverished beliefs.

Andreas. Full of excellent strategies and NLP knowledge.

The other quintessential book on content reframing and context reframing, including the original six-step
reframe.
Personality Selling: Using NLP and the Enneagram to Understand People and How They Are Influenced
by Albert J. Valentino
Although, I had a hard time getting into the Enneagram, which tries to pidgeonhole every person into
one of nine personality types, the first half of this book on NLP is outstanding. A great read, even if you
dont make it through the second half.
Instant
Rapport by Michael Brooks
One of the only books I know that takes NLP and applies it to something completely practical that we all

can understand. Rather than teaching NLP from a clinical perspective, Michael Brooks attacks the task
from a social perspective. If you really want to learn rapport, this is a great book for you to start.

Voice will Go With You: The Motivational Tales of Milton H. Erickson
An excellent collection of anecdotal stories and metaphors from Milton Erickson.
Chicken
Soup for the Soul and other related titles by Jack Canfield
