your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

KJV - And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also
which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

LB - But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that
your Father in heaven will forgive you your sins too.

Note to the educator
A classroom of forgiveness is the mark of a Chris;an educator. There are many places in the
Bible that are “if…then” situa;ons with God. If we do our part, He promises to do His. In this
case, how can we expect God to forgive us if we haven’t forgiven those who have offended us?

At ;mes the offense may come from a colleague, but there are plenty of ;mes an offense
comes from our students. How we handle these tense situa;ons is uniquely Chris;an. We must
forgive. It doesn’t mean we don’t discipline. It does mean that we forgive them their offense so
that when we pray, we may stand before God without any offense on our part. Giving students

a fresh start each ;me they enter your classroom is an investment into their learning. It clears
the air and gives them a second chance. Our God is a God of second chances. Why not be
known as a classroom of second chances?
