Sclairpipe
Versatile high density polyethylene pipe

Flexible Sclairpipe high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe represents the latest
advances in both material and manufacturing techniques. Since 1968,
Sclairpipe has been proven in a wide range of municipal and industrial
lightweight piping applications. It has been used extensively in the municipal market
for gravity sewers, sewage forcemains, and pressure water systems. KWH
pipe for Pipe has special expertise in marine installations of Sclairpipe, including
river and lake crossings; and river, lake and deep ocean intakes and
your most outfalls.

applications Sclairpipe is a tough, lightweight, solid wall pipe with a smooth internal
surface. Available in various diameters from 3/4" to 63" it can handle
internal pressures of up to 300psi. It is a well suited alternative to copper,
PVC, ductile iron and concrete pipe in a variety of different applications.
Sclairpipe weighs approximately 1/10 that of a similar sized concrete pipe.
Handling requires a minimum of heavy equipment and Sclairpipe can
easily be assembled on ice or through wet marshy areas. It will not
corrode, tuberculate or support biological growth, making it the material
of choice in harsh environments. Sclairpipe is inert to salt water and to
chemicals likely to be present in sanitary sewage effluent.
Sclairpipe has a smooth ID and maintains its flow capability over time -
Hazen Williams C Factor remains 150, even after years of use.

Easier to Transport and Install.

Leak Proof.
Sclairpipe is much easier to handle and install than heavier, rigid concrete
pipe, offering potential cost savings during the construction process. It is
structurally designed to withstand impact, especially in cold weather
installations when other pipes are prone to cracks and breaks. Sclairpipe
will float even when full of water. For marine applications long lengths of
pipe can be assembled on shore and then floated into position.

Thermal butt fusion provides an economical and fast method of delivering
a complete, long, continuous length of pipe. Thermal fusion eliminates
potential leak points every 8-20 feet commonly found with gasketed (or
bell or spigot) pipe materials. The fused joints provide a continuous leak Sclairpipe
proof system that eliminates the risk of joint leakage due to ground
shifting. Fused joints are fully restrained and as such may reduce or Advantages
eliminate the need for expensive thrust blocks.
With Sclairpipe infiltration and exfiltration problems are eliminated. Leak Proof
Cost Effective. Permanent. Corrosion Resistant
Sclairpipe offers distinct advantages. It can be installed on a curve to a Chemical Resistant
radius as small as 25 times the nominal pipe diameter to eliminate many
fittings required for directional changes in piping systems made from other

trenches without the need for expensive foundations or minor degree
elbows. It is well suited for dynamic soils and areas prone to earthquake.
Impact Resistant
Sclairpipe is cost effective in both the short and long term. The fact that it Lightweight

Proven performance in a
wide range of applications
Since its development in 1955, large diameter HDPE pipe has been
successfully used in many installations worldwide. In North America,
Sclairpipe high density polyethylene pipe was first introduced in 1968.
Since then it has been installed for river, lake and salt water crossings,
municipal and industrial fresh and salt water intakes and effluent outfalls.
Sclairpipe has also been used extensively for pipeline repair and
rehabilitation.
Some popular applications of Sclairpipe include:

Potable Water Distribution Slurry Pipe

Pressure Water Systems Mining
Sewage Systems Marine Pipelines & Crossings
Water Mains Deep Water Intakes
Sliplining Deep Water Outfalls
Fire Mains Irrigation Lines
Directional Drilling Biofilters
Trenchless Technologies Gas Gathering

Potable Water
Sclairpipe is used for both new water main installations and to rehabilitate
deteriorated piping systems made from other materials. It can accept
repetitive pressure surges that far exceed the static pressure rating of the
pipe. Sclairpipe is easy to handle and is available in long lengths that cut
down on jointing time. Thermal fusion on site reduces installation time and
ensures leakproof joints that eliminate infiltration and exfiltration problems.
Sclairpipe is well suited for dynamic soils and areas prone to earthquake.

Sewage Systems
After more than 35 years of use in municipal and industrial sewer
applications, Sclairpipe has proven to be a reliable, cost effective, long-term
solution for sewer and wastewater systems. It offers resistance to corrosion
and chemicals with durability and strength that rigid concrete, PVC or ductile
iron pipes cant duplicate. Lightweight Sclairpipe is easy-to-install, extremely
flexible and does not corrode or tuberculate over time.

Industry
Long-term reliable piping solutions are always in demand by industry.
Sclairpipe offers resistance to corrosion, abrasion and chemicals resulting in
a durable, strong and cost-effective installation.

4 Sclairpipe
Mining
Sclairpipe solid wall HDPE pipe is commonly used in mining applications for
tailing disposal water management including: river water diversion,
reclamation lines, culvert, sewer and sub-drainage systems and conveying
pipe. It is lightweight, flexible, durable and abrasion resistant. It is virtually
leak proof, and can withstand corrosive chemicals, acids or salts commonly
found in mines. Sclairpipe combines strength and durability in above ground
applications and is UV resistant.

Irrigation
Sclairpipe is a cost effective solution for irrigation and agricultural drainage
applications such as river and canal diversion, agricultural irrigation systems
and pipelines, and water conservation. It is lightweight, flexible and leak
proof, resistant to corrosion and salt water, and joints can be heat-fused on
site for ease of installation. A Sclairpipe irrigation system will withstand the
test of time.

Heating & Cooling

Sclairpipe has proven to be a strong, leak proof and chemically inert solution
for district cooling applications including dual-purpose projects providing
cooling and potable water. It can be assembled on shore in a continuous
flexible length, floated on the waters surface and then sunk by a controlled
process. The pipe can also be manufactured in specific lengths and connected
on site by flanges with the aid of marine divers. Sclairpipe pipes resistance to
both corrosion and zebra mussel fouling makes it an ideal solution.

Sclairpipe 5
Choose the Sclairpipe is available in standard Dimensional Ratios (DRs), in sizes ranging
from 3/4 to 63 in diameter. The Dimensional Ratio relates the minimum
wall thickness of the pipe to its outside diameter, and is important to define
size thats the pressure rating of a particular pipe. Coiled pipe diameters range from
3/4" and 1" Copper Tube Size (CTS) and 3/4" to 3" nominal outside
right for you diameters in Iron Pipe Sizes (IPS). The maximum continuous operating
pressure stated is based on a PE3408/3608 (Per ASTM D3350)1 material for
the indicated DR and is based on water service at 73F.
Sclairpipe is also available from higher density bi-modal resins, having enhanced performance characteristics.

Extensive R&D in the early 1960s led us to produce 16" diameter
assurance polyethylene pipe at a time when many considered large diameter
polyethylene pipes a technical impossibility. Today KWH Pipe produces solid
wall Sclairpipe in sizes up to 63".
All KWH Pipe products are manufactured from special, high strength resins
with complete quality control maintained from raw material to finished pipe
product. KWH Pipe was the first North American manufacturer of
polyethylene pipe and fittings to have its Quality Management System
registered to the ISO 9001:2000 level.
Our strict manufacturing specifications are verified daily, using precise
dimensional controls and accelerated long term hydrostatic testing. A
continuous quality control process assures you of long-term pipe
performance. We certify that the pipe resin used to extrude Sclairpipe has a
minimum cell classification of PE 345464C when classified in accordance
with ASTM D3350. Sclairpipe is classified as a PE 3408 material using PPIs
(Plastic Pipe Institute) method of determining and validating the Long-Term
Hydrostatic Stress (LTHS) of polyethylene pipe.

8 Sclairpipe
Innovative Sclairpipe piping systems can be assembled by heat fusion (butt,
electrofusion, socket and saddle fusion), flanged connections,
compression couplings and various mechanical couplings. The superior
joining performance of Sclairpipe results from the combination of pipe and fittings
designed to work together as a complete system. A full range of pressure
methods and rated fittings is available to suit any application.
The most popular method of joining Sclairpipe is thermal butt fusion. This
equipment fast and economical technique permits the quick assembly of long
continuous lengths and the joining of fittings to the pipe. The fused joints
are as reliable and strong as the pipe itself, fully restrained, providing
continuous leak proof systems.
Our skilled fusion specialists are available to assist in the most efficient
installation of your Sclairpipe system. Their experience in on-the-job
handling, installation and set-up of polyethylene pipe and their pre-job
planning capabilities ensures you of a superior installation. Sclairpipe
fusion specialists can train and assist your personnel on your joining
equipment.

Sclairpipe 9
Fabricated KWH Pipe believes that every element of your piping system should be
carefully designed to work together in a cost-effective manner. We provide
a wide range of complimentary fittings, proven over years of service, to
fittings meet the requirements of just about any piping system.

complete Fabricated fittings for use in pressure service are manufactured in the same
diameters as Sclairpipe but with heavier walls than are used in the piping
system. This results in a fitting with a pressure rating which is greater than
any system or equal to the pipe itself. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the
additional wall thickness is on the ID. The butt weld ends of the fittings are
counter bored to meet the wall thickness of the mating pipe. KWH Pipe
recommends that fittings be ordered by EDR (Equivalent Dimensional
Ratio). The pressure rating of the EDR fittings is the same as that
associated with the DR of the matching pipe.
All fabricated fittings can be supplied with either flanged ends and/or plain
ends for field butt fusion to the piping system. FM approved fittings are
also available.

Elbows
Elbows for Sclairpipe systems are designed for pressure service and are
fabricated from pipe typically 1 standard (SDR) DR heavier than the
adjoining pipe. The result is a fitting with the same pressure rating as
the main line pipe. The ends of the fitting are counter bored to match
the wall thickness of the pipe to which it is being connected. Elbows
available in IPS and DIPS sizes.

Mitered Tees & Crosses

KWH Pipe produces fully pressure rated tees up to 48" in outside
diameter. These mitered tees and crosses intended for pressure service
are fabricated from pipe that is 2 standard (SDR) DRs heavier than the
adjoining pipe. The result is a fitting with the same pressure rating as
the main line pipe. The ends of the fitting are counter bored to match
the wall thickness of the pipe to which it is being connected. Mitered
tees and crosses are available in IPS and DIPS sizes.

10 Sclairpipe
Sidewall Tees
As an alternative to conventional reducing tees, our engineered
sidewall tees are designed to provide 90 branch reductions off the
mainline pipe. Sidewall tees are available in IPS and DIPS sizes. See the
fittings section on our website for size ranges and details,
www.kwhpipe.ca.

Laterals
KWH Pipe produces 45 and 60 laterals up to 42" in outside
diameter. These laterals are fabricated from pipe with a heavier wall
than in the matching pipe. The ends of the fitting are counter bored
to match the wall thickness of the pipe to which it is being connected.
Laterals are available in IPS and DIPS sizes.

Concentric Reducers
KWH Pipe also offers concentric reducers that are designed to have a
pressure rating equal to a polyethylene pipe with the same DR. We
also offer a compact style for significant cost savings. The same high
quality resin and extrusion processes used in the manufacture of
Sclairpipe is used to produce these reducers.

Sclairpipe 11
Polyethylene Stub-Ends & Flange
Adapters
To join Sclairpipe to other piping materials, ancillary equipment, or to
special fittings, a mechanical fitting is usually required. For these types
of connections, a flange assembly is the recommended method. This
assembly consists of a slip-on metal flange and a polyethylene flange
adapter or stub-end. The stub-end or flange adapters carry the same
pressure rating as the pipe and are butt fused to the pipe end. The
stub-end/flange adapter must be the same DR rating as the pipe to
which it is joined.

Slip-On Metal Flanges

Stock flanges are available and made from ductile iron. KWH Pipe can
also supply flanges from other materials for specific applications. The
metal flanges are drilled to ANSI 16.1/16.47/16.5, Class 125/150 bolt
circles and AWWA C207. Flanges can be supplied with corrosion
resistant coatings if required.

Injection Molded Fittings

KWH Pipe offers a full line of molded fittings, in all common
configurations. The resins used to produce these components meet
the same standards and specifications as is used to produce Sclairpipe
and conventional fabricated fittings. Molded fittings are available with
socket fusion or butt fusion ends.

Weholite
Weholite
Lightweight Pipe System

Weholite pipe is large diameter, profile wall pipe made from high-density
The polyethylene (HDPE) resin. Designed for gravity and low-pressure applications,
Weholites raw material properties have been combined with patented
lightweight structural wall technology to create a lightweight engineered pipe with
superior loading capacity. It is used to convey liquids or air, under ground
pipe that or above ground, in low-pressure applications.

takes a Lighter. Stronger. Chemical Resistant.

heavier Weholite pipe is much lighter than similarly sized concrete pipe. Combine
this with longer manufacturing lengths and Weholite allows you to

load achieve savings in labour and equipment.

Weholite HDPE pipe will not corrode, tuberculate or support biological
growth, making it the material of choice in harsh chemical environments.
It is inert to salt water and the chemicals likely to be present in sanitary
sewage effluent.
Like all HDPE pipe, Weholite has a smooth ID that maintains its flow capability
over time. The low Mannings roughness factor of 0.01 remains constant,
even after years of use.

Easier to Transport. Easier to Install.

Leak Proof.
Weholite pipe is much easier to handle and install than heavier, rigid
concrete or metallic pipe. This means potential cost savings during the
construction process. It is structurally designed to withstand an impact,
especially in cold weather installations when other pipes are prone to
cracks and breaks.
Weholite pipe is usually joined by a thermal fusion process (extrusion
welding) to form a joint that is as strong as the pipe itself. Extrusion
welding eliminates potential leak points every 8-20 feet commonly found
with concrete, PVC and ductile iron pipe. Since fused joints are self-
restraining, costly thrust restraints or thrust blocks may not required.

2 Weholite
Extrusion welded Weholite pipe is leak proof. The properties of HDPE pipe
and the thermal fusion method of joining produces a continuous pipeline,
eliminating the risk of leakage caused by shifting unstable soils. A
continuous Weholite pipeline eliminates the joint infiltration and exfiltration
problems experienced with other pipe materials.

Cost Effective. Permanent. Weholite

Weholite pipe offers distinct chemical and physical advantages over concrete Advantages
or iron pipe. It can be bent to a radius 200 times the nominal pipe diameter
to eliminate many fittings required for directional changes in piping systems Lightweight
made from other materials. In addition, the flexibility of Weholite pipe
makes it well suited for dynamic soils and areas prone to earthquakes. Impact Resistant
Weholite is cost effective in both the short and long term. The fact that
it is lightweight makes it easier to transport and install. The fact that it Corrosion Resistant
is leak proof and fatigue resistant means years of maintenance free use.
The Plastics Pipe Institute conservatively estimates the service life for Chemical Resistant
HDPE pipe to be 50-100 years.

Product For over 50 years KWH Pipe has been a leader in the design, development,
manufacturing and engineering support of polyethylene piping systems.

innovation Extensive R&D in the early 1960s led us to produce 16" diameter
polyethylene pipe at a time when many considered this size a technical

and quality impossibility. Today KWH Pipe produces 132" profile wall Weholite pipe for a
wide range of applications. We have patented an unique welding machine
designed for joining pipes using thermally fused extrusion welding to assure
assurance leak-tight joints.
Our
continuous quality control process assures you of long-term pipe performance.

Weholite 9
Easy to Since Weholite pipe is lightweight and flexible, it is easy to transport and
install. Small misalignments of pipeline can be accommodated by bending
the pipe itself. Long lengths of pipe can be ordered to reduce the number
transport, of joints and the associated time and expense of installation. Thermal
fusion allows for a fast joint that is as strong as the pipe itself and leak-
join and proof. Please visit our web site and use our online specification tool for
detailed information on pipe selection and installation.
install
Thermal Fusion/Extrusion Welding
Thermally fused extrusion welded joints are the recommended joining
method. The connection can be made using simple hand-held extrusion
equipment. Specialized equipment is also available to join large diameter
pipe on both the inner and outer surfaces from inside the pipe. This process
enables the pipe to be connected at both the inner and outer pipe walls in a
single operation from within the pipe. Equipment can be leased from KWH
Pipe and operated by factory trained technicians to provide a leak-proof seal.

Simplified Material Handling

Light weight and long lengths reduce the material handling requirements
at construction and storage sites. In addition, Weholite has high axial (or
beam) stiffness that reduces the number of support points required to lift
these long lengths of pipe. The durable PE material helps ensure that
product damage due to handling is minimized.

Wehoseal Joint Wrap

Wehoseal Joint Wrap is commonly used to connect Weholite pipe to other
piping materials or when Weholite is used to reline other pipe materials. It is
made from a shrinkable cross-linked polyethylene material which conforms to
the diameter of the pipe when heated. Sleeves can be supplied with
additional fiberglass reinforcement for challenging conditions. Installation is
performed in the field using a propane torch and a hand roller.

Thread-Loc Joint
The unique Thread-Loc joint on KWH Pipes Weholite pipe allows
municipal maintenance crews or contractors to rehabilitate deteriorated
culverts and sewers without excavation, at a fraction of the cost of
replacement. A threaded connection gives a joint that resists infiltration
of normal silt and rainwater debris. The Thread-Loc connection is available
on sizes from 18 to 132.
Thread-Loc Joint not available in 48 and below in U.S.A.

10 Weholite
Grouting Reline Pipe
Weholites high axial stiffness and high resistance to the hydrostatic
collapse pressure caused by grouting, simplifies the installation and
grouting procedures when using this pipe to reline deteriorated highway
culvert pipe. Relining offers substantial savings over replacement of
distressed pipe and avoids traffic disruption.

Pipe Installation
The bedding and backfill requirements for Weholite pipe are the same as
those for all plastic pipe. ASTM standard D2321 that applies to PE and PVC
plastic pipe installation, is appropriate for describing the process for
placement of bedding, and backfill materials on a Weholite pipe installation.
Where native materials are suitable, imported embedment materials may
not be required.

Manhole Installation
Weholite manholes are designed in accordance with ASTM F1759. HDPE
manholes when used with HDPE piping produce a sewage system that is
completely leak-free and is not subject to the corrosion experienced in
many sanitary sewage systems. Weholite manholes may be provided with
corrosion resistant OSHA ladders, and field cut to the required height.
