2 Functionality The input signals are sampled in the relay model at 20 samples/cycle. 1.1 Model general description The ABB REJ 523 relay is a phase fault non directional protection relay. it consists of the measurement and acquisition units. One measurement unit (“Measure” blocks) is fed by this CT.1. the protective elements. a DFT filter operating over a cycle calculates the current values used by the protective elements. Please notice that no info is available in the manual about the sampling rate.1. The ABB REJ 523 PowerFactory relay model is implementing all the protective functions available in the relay. the start situation detection logic and the output logic.1 Available Units The primary current is measured by one current transformer (“Ct” block) .2 Protective elements 1. the breaker failure feature.1.2. For this reason an implementation common in many protective relays has been used.1 Available Units  One phase current inverse time overcurrent element (“I>” and “I> (def time)” block)  One phase current definite time overcurrent element (“I>>” block) ABB REJ 523 Power Factory V001 Relay model description 4 .3 Data Input Please note that the nominal current value MUST be entered in the measurement unit.1 Measurement and acquisition 1. 1. 1. 1.

3 Breaker failure 1.3. 1. 1. 1. Vice versa disable the “I>” block and enable the “I> (def time)” block if the definite time trip characteristic should be used in the first phase element.3. ABB REJ 523 Power Factory V001 Relay model description 5 .2 Functionality The “CBFP” block is a timer which is operating the relay model “PO2” output signal when the phase current is still present after CBFP (relay setting) seconds that the “PO1” output signal has been activated. 1.1 Available Units The Circuit breaker failure protection feature is modelled by the “CBFP” block and by the “Min I” block.2.2 Functionality The PF model contains all the protective elements available in the relay. Please notice that by default when a new relay instance is created the “I>” block is disabled.3 Data input Please enable the “I>” block and disable the “I> (def time)” block if an inverse trip characteristic should be used in the first phase element.2. The inverse time overcurrent element supports the following trip characteristics:  Definite time  IEC ”Extremely inverse”  IEC “Very inverse”  IEC “Normal inverse”  IEC ”Long time inverse”  “RI Inverse time”  “RD Inverse time” 1.3.3 Data input Please insert the “CBFP” relay setting as “Time setting” of the “CBFP” block in the PF relay model.

4.12 x I> to a value above 1.2 Functionality The “Output logic” block is operating the breaker. The feature can be deactivated disabling the “Inrushdetector” block 1.1.5.5In” block) and by a timer (“Inrushdetector” block) which is forcing the signal reporting the in start condition to remain on until the current isn’t smaller than 1. The signal operating the breaker is “PO1”.5.25 In.5 x I> in less than 60 ms.25 x I>. the “1. The start situation ends when the current falls below 1.4. 1.25In” and the “1. 1. ABB REJ 523 Power Factory V001 Relay model description 6 .5 Output logic 1.12In”.1 Available Units The start situation detection logic is implemented by some overcurrent/undercurrent elements mocking up the start detection logic thresholds (the “0. “TStartIMM” represents the starting signal of the “I>>” element. Two additional signals are available to mock up the behaviour of the starting signals of the phase fault elements: “TStartIM” represents the starting signal of the “I>” element.4.1 Available Units The output logic is implemented by the “Trip logic” and by the “Output logic” block. the output signal “PO2” is available as well and is controlled by the breaker failure feature. Please notice that the power breaker is not operated by “PO2”.2 Functionality A start situation is defined as a situation where the phase current rises from a value below 0.4 Start situation detection 1. 1.3 Data input No data input is required. Please disable the “Output Logic” block to disable the relay model ability to open the power circuit. The start detection signal is then used by the “ICalc” block which is dividing by two the current feeding the “I>>” element.
