Omnamobhagavatyaiaryaprajnaparamitayai!
Om!Salutationtotheblessedandnobleone!(whohasreachedtheothershoreofthemostexcellenttranscendental
wisdom).
(Inthisinvocationtheperfectionoftranscendentalwisdomispersonifiedasthecompassionatemotherofbodhi
wisdomwhobestowsenlightenmentuponthebodhisattvaswhohadvigilantlyfollowedthecourseprescribedfor
theaspiranttofullenlightenmentsamyaksambodhi.)
1aryaavalokitesvarobodhisattvogambhiramprajnaparamitacaryamcaramano
vyavalokayatisma:pancaskandhastamscasvabhavasunyanpasyatisma.
Thenoblebodhisattva,Avalokitesvara,beingengagedinpracticingthedeeptranscendentalwisdomdiscipline,looked
downfromaboveuponthefiveskandhas(aggregates),andsawthatintheirsvabhava(selfbeing)theyaredevoidof
substance.
2ihasariputrarupamsunyatasunyataivarupam,rupannaprithaksunyatasunyatayana
prithagrupam,yadrupamsasunyatayasunyatatadrupam;evamevavedanasamjna
samskaravijnanam.
Here,OSariputra,bodilyformisvoidness;verily,voidnessisbodilyform.Apartfrombodilyformthereisno
voidness;soapartfromvoidnessthereisnobodilyform.Thatwhichisvoidnessisbodilyform;thatwhichisbodily
formisvoidness.Likewise(thefouraggregates)feeling,perception,mentalimaging,andconsciousness(aredevoid
ofsubstance).
3ihasariputrasarvadharmahsunyatalaksala,anutpannaaniruddha,amalaavimala,anuna
aparipurnah.
Here,OSariputra,allphenomenaofexistencearecharacterizedbyvoidness:neitherbornnorannihilated,neither
blemishednorimmaculate,neitherdeficientnoroverfilled.
4tasmacchariputrasunyatayamnarupamnavedananasamjnanasamskarahnavijnanam.
nacaksuhsrotraghranajihvakayamanamsi.narupasabdagandharasasprastavya
dharmah.nacaksurdhaturyavannamanovijnanadhatuh.naavidyanaavidyaksayoyavan
najaramaranamnajaramaranaksayo.naduhkhasamudayanirodhamarga.najnanam,na
praptirnaapraptih.
Therefore,OSariputra,invoidnessthereisnobodilyform,nofeeling,nomentalimaging,noconsciousness;noeye,
ear,nose,tongue,body,ormind;nosenseobjectsofbodilyform,sound,smell,taste,ortouchablestates;novisual
element,andsoforth,untilonecomestonomindcognitionelement.Thereisnoignorance,norextinctionof
ignorance,untilwecometo:noaginganddeath,norextinctionofaginganddeath.Thereisnosuffering,no
origination,nocessation,nopath;thereisnohigherknowledge,noattainment(ofnirvana),nononattainment.
5tasmacchariputraapraptitvadbodhisattvasyaprajnaparamitamasrityavibaraty
acittavaranah.cittavarananastitvadatrastoviparyasaatikrantonisthanirvanapraptah.
Therefore,OSariputra,byreasonofhisnonattainment(ofnirvana),thebodhisattva,havingresorted
toprajnaparamita(transcendentalwisdom),dwellsserenelywithperfectmentalfreedom.Byhisnonpossessionof
mentalimpediments(thebodhisattva)withoutfear,havingsurpassedallperversions,attainstheunattainable(blissof)
nirvana.
6tryadhvavyavasthitahsarvabuddhahprajnaparamitamasrityaanuttaram
samyaksambodhimabhisambuddhah.
AllBuddhas,selfappointedtoappearinthethreeperiodsoftime(past,present,andfuture),havingresortedtothe
incomparableprajnaparamita,havebecomefullyawaketosamyaksambodhi(absoluteperfectenlightenment).
7tasmajjnatavyam:prajnaparamitamahamantromahavidyamantro'nuttaramantro
samasamamantrah,sarvaduhkhaprasamanah,satyamamithyatvat.prajnaparamitayam
uktomantrah.tadyatha:gategateparagateparasamgatebodhisvaha.itiprajnaparamita
hridayamsamaptam.
Thereforeprajnaparamitashouldberecognizedasthegreatmantra,themantraofgreatwisdom,themostsublime
mantra,theincomparablemantraandthealleviatorofallsuffering;itistruthbyreasonofitsbeingnonfalsehood.This
isthemantraproclaimedinprajnaparamita.Itis:
gategateparagateparasamgatebodhisvaha!
