Numeric
2-tier architecture A deployment structure where the user interface is found on the client
machine, while the database is on a server. The application logic can run
on either the client machine or the server.
3-tier architecture A deployment structure in which users access the system through the
client applications InfoView, WebIntelligence, and 3-tier BusinessObjects
deployment, using standard web browsers. All of the business logic and
connectivities are installed on the servers, not the clients.
2-tier BusinessObjects deployed in a client-server architecture, communicating
BusinessObjects directly with the Business Objects repository and corporate data sources
deployment through middleware installed on the client.
3-tier BusinessObjects deployed in a 3-tier architecture, logging in and
BusinessObjects accessing the Business Objects repository and data servers through the
deployment InfoView portal. For such a deployment, BusinessObjects can be
downloaded to client machines from the Business Objects server during
an InfoView session or installed from a CD. In this type of deployment, all
document processing is handled by the server layer.
Formerly known as Zero Admin BusinessObjects.

drill Analyze query results by displaying data on a more detailed level within
the document you are working on. To do this, you must have
WebIntelligence Explorer or BusinessObjects. With the appropriate
security profile, you can drill beyond the query results by extending the
scope of analysis.
For example, suppose your document contains a table which displays
revenue per resort. You see that the revenue in a resort is particularly low.
If the document is drillable, you can drill down a level to display the
individual service lines (accommodation, food and drinks, etc.). If this data
doesnt answer your question (Why is revenue low in this resort?), you
can drill down again, to display data for the services in the service lines.
DSL See Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).

DSS See Decision Support System (DSS).
Duplicate rows Rows of data that appear more than once in the result of a query.
Dynamic Data A Windows feature that enables you to export data from BusinessObjects
Exchange (DDE) to another application, such as Microsoft Excel. The data in the target
application can be automatically refreshed when the data in the host
application changes.
dynamic filters Filters that allow you to satisfy conditions using a formula. The formula that
you will write will tell the filter which data to present (for example, stores
that make over $20,000 in sales per month).
Desktop Online Applications that allow users to query ROLAP databases by performing
Analytical Processing calculations on data and building a cube, which is then placed on the
(DOLAP) user's desktop. DOLAP is inexpensive and lets users use as many data
sources as desired, but it is limited in size and is only as fast as the
organization's network (uses network bandwidth).
