how to use THE UCLA TRANSFER ADMISSION GUIDE

This guide is to serve as a primary resource when determining
which courses need to be completed for major preparation.
• Majors in the College of Letters and Science are listed in alphabetical order
starting on page 6.
• Majors for each of our specialty schools begin on page 16.
• Beneath each major, you will see a list of major preparation courses, along with
other critical information you may need for admission purposes.
• Applicants from California community colleges should use this guide in
conjunction with www.assist.org to determine which specific courses you
should be taking at your institution.
• This guide is not a substitute or replacement for your college counselor, who
can advise you about requirements for multiple universities.

UCLA Transfer Selection
UCLA is committed to being a transfer-friendly institution, and strong academic
preparation and performance make you a more competitive candidate during
the admission review process. The average GPA of admitted transfer students
is higher than 3.5, and most admitted students have completed most or all
preparatory coursework for their major. We give highest priority to applicants
from California community colleges and other University of California
campuses. All schools at UCLA admit students for fall quarter only.

Important Resources For California Community
College Students
• ASSIST (www.assist.org) provides detailed information on transferable courses, major prep
requirements, and course articulation.

• Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) enables California community
college students to complete UC general education requirements before they transfer.

• UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (UCLA TAP) allows you to enhance your ability to transfer to
UCLA. Students are certified after completing the honors/scholars program and given priority
consideration for admission to UCLA's College of Letters and Science. Be aware that not all California
community colleges offer this program, and participation does not guarantee admission to UCLA.

• UCLA Admission Representatives visit many California community colleges throughout the year.
Visit your college transfer center to schedule an appointment.

• UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP) is an online tool designed to help prospective
UC students track and plan their course work with counselors and UC representatives.
Visit uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu to learn more.
