ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Teaching Internship January 2017 to Present
Responsible for the day to day planning and instruction of three class periods of Sophomore
English Language Arts at Walden Grove High School in Sahuarita Unified School District.

Field Experience/Teaching Internship Fall 2016
Participated in one semester of observation in the classroom, with an assigned supervising
practitioner, to gain insight into the responsibilities of a secondary English Language Arts teacher.
This included various opportunities to engage with students, plan lessons, and deliver instruction.

Project SOAR Mentor Fall, 2015
Participated in the University of Arizona’s Project SOAR as a mentor at Valencia Middle School
in Tucson, AZ. Prepared and carried out various activities designed to aid the mentee in preparing
for a college education, including how to make and set goals, weigh decisions against
consequences, etc.

SLAT Roundtable Workshop Spring, 2015
Participated in the conception, planning stages, and presentation of the benefits of using a
language corpus in the language classroom in conjunction with a doctoral candidate advisor and
peers. The workshop included demonstrations and guided hands-on participation.

VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Counselor Sep 2014 - present
 Provide guidance to Boy Scouts working toward merit badge, including printing
worksheets, teaching classes, and following up on individual assignments
BSA Cub Scout Committee Chairman Aug 2013 – Jan 2015
 Oversee the Cub Scout Committee for Pack 383, provide support for den leaders, organize
and plan monthly pack meetings, enter completion dates for achievements in online
tracking program, purchase and organize awards for presentation at pack meetings,
organize and provide support for yearly day camp activities

Elementary School Volunteer Aug 2006 – present
 Providing parental support to elementary school teachers in various aspects, and at various
times over the last several years, including guiding weekly reading groups, executing
weekly math tests and tracking scores, grading papers, assisting with craft days and
holiday activities, chaperoning field trips, providing or preparing materials for activities.

Religious Volunteer Service June 1991 – present
 Served and continue to serve in various roles within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
Day Saints, in leadership positions as well as teaching positions, ranging in ages from 18
months, to youth, to adults.

 Served in the Portugal, Porto Mission from February 1994 to September of 1995.
Responsibilities included teaching gospel principals to investigators, supporting church
members in their positions, and communicating with a wide variety of individuals, as well
as learning to speak Portuguese fluently.

LANGUAGES

 Portuguese – intermediate to proficient; initial learning took place at the Missionary Training
Center in Provo, Utah; lived in Portugal for 16 months with the expectation that all daily
communication would take place in Portuguese
 Spanish – beginner to intermediate; completed Spanish 101 through 202 during undergraduate
years; Spanish spoken with acquaintances occasionally
