The annual D.C. Caribbean Carnival Parade was held on Georgia

Avenue N.W. in Washington, D.C. and culminated at the Banneker
Recreation Park directly across from Howard University. The festival
and parade is designed to “promote cross-cultural programs in the
Metropolitan area and educate adults and youths in Caribbean
culture, arts and crafts.”
Ms. Caribbean The parade included a variety of colorful and interesting
Metro USA costumes and led to the International
Chardelle Moore Marketplace called “De Savannah”
featuring food and entertainment. One
of the traditional aspects of the carnival is
“playing mud” where participants cover themselves
with red mud and dance in the street. Truly, a vibrant
display of culture in nation’s capital.
