What is Carpe Diem?

Carpe Diem is a unique opportunity for bright minds from select B-Schools to work with HUL on a
live project and get a chance to be a summer intern under the prestigious Unilever Leaders
Internship Programme (ULIP). And all this by means of an interesting case study competition! As
the name suggests, if you believe you have that fire in your belly to take control of the present
and convert a problem into an opportunity, Carpe Diem gives you just that platform to prove your
mettle. All you have to do is crack a case solution to a live Marketing problem. By doing this, you
get to work with a Brand Manager in HUL on a LIVE marketing project and take away rich
learning and insights that the magical world of FMCG has to offer. Not just this, you also hold a
chance to be a summer intern at HUL in ULIP 2017, based in one of Unilever’s several offices
across the globe and manage live projects that have a direct and huge impact on the business.


This case study competition is open to all first year students interested in Marketing from the
following institutes:

1. IIFT, Delhi
2. IMT, Ghaziabad
3. MDI, Gurgaon
4. NMIMS, Mumbai
5. SIBM, Pune
6. XIM, Bhubaneshwar

Participation process

The contest will span across one month and will take place in the following phases:

A. Case Study and Registration

 All participants shall register for the competition individually
 Individuals register themselves by logging on to www.facebook.com/unileverdiariesindia
 A common HUL case study will be assigned to all 6 B-schools
 The HUL case study shall be shared with the Placement Committee of your institute

B. Submission of Case Solutions

 This period is the window for research, analysis and brainstorming
 Deliverables at the end of this phase: 1 page write-up as a solution to the case (Font: Arial,
Font size: 11, Line Spacing: 1)
 Participants are requested to upload the solutions on www.facebook.com/unileverdiariesindia
 HUL will evaluate all the entries and reserves the right to shortlist top 12 entries from each
 Remember that you need to convince the Jury comprising of senior leaders from HUL of what
can be an implementable solution.

Final Presentations  The 2 shortlisted teams from each institute will be invited to the HUL Campus in Mumbai. The Jury will evaluate the team’s performance based on a 5 minutes presentation + 10 minutes Q&A. The winners will also be awarded a Pre Placement Interview for ULIP 2017.  Travel and stay arrangements for all 12 teams travelling to Mumbai for the Finals will be arranged by HUL. Detailed groundwork and Mentoring  The 12 Finalist teams will be assigned a mentor whom they will be able to interact with for any conceptual clarity. Note: The interviews will be held in HUL HO.com/unileverdiariesindia  The 12 shortlisted participants from each institute will be required to constitute 4 teams of 3 members internally by themselves and submit a detailed presentation of their case solution to HUL. – via mail & phone  The details will be communicated to your team by email Prizes  Finals: The students that reach the finals stand a chance to be shortlisted and fast tracked for the Prelim round of Interview for ULIP 2017.facebook.  Deliverables at the end of this phase: A detailed power point presentation on the case solution by the team. discussion etc.facebook.  Grand Finale winners: The winning team in the Grand Finale gets a unique opportunity to work with the Brand team on the LIVE project and implement their solutions. Semi Finals  The names of the 12 shortlisted participants will be shared with the institute’s placement team and on www.  These top 2 teams from each institute will then qualify to enter the finals.com/unileverdiariesindia . D. C. This will be purely on the basis of their case presentation and profiles.  The Jury will select the winning team of Carpe Diem based on presentation and Q&A. The email address will be notified to the teams.  A jury consisting of HUL senior leaders will evaluate and select 2 top teams from each institute.  They will then present their case solution to a jury comprising of senior leaders from HUL.
