1.0 Introduction
My name is Wong Jian Yuan from Malaysia, I am currently staying in Subang Jaya with
my family. 23 years old this year, born in 4th January 1994. My hometown is in Ayer
Tawar, Sitiawan and I have lived in Kajang for 18 years, only then I move to Subang
Jaya. My hobby is to play basketball, and I play basketball with my friends 3 times per
week at night. I have represent a club to go for competition and I also like to play
computer games, I play for about 3 to 4 hours every day. My ambition is to become a
Marketing Executive in a company and would like to gain more experience on this. I
would like to help the company to find ways to develop a marketing campaign to promote
their product, services and event. I would like to take this challenge because I feel that it
is interesting and fresh to me.

1.1SMART Goal
Currently the best framework to practice for setting an individual goal and also used by successful
companies nowadays is the SMART Goals. Introduced by George T.Doran in November 1981 in
the issue of Management Review where the term SMART was first used, S represents Specific
which means that the goals must be clear and specific where it can help trigger motivation and
focus. M stands for Measurable meaning to always track the progress of a work or job to be on
track and to stay motivated, focused to meet the deadlines. A would be Achievement where the
goal are supposed to be realistic and attainable in order to success. In other word, the need to
stretch abilities and still remain the possibilities. R stands for Relevant meaning to have the goal
setting to be about the individual itself and also aligns with the other relevant goals. Last but not
least, T which means Time-bound which is the target date to achieve the goal. A deadline to focus
and something for the goal setter to look forward to. It also helps to know about the priorities and
not let the other not so important goals to take over the main important goal. (Anonymous, 2017)

1.2 Short, medium and long term goals
Short term goal is the things that want to achieve in near future meaning something that
you want to accomplish soon. Long term goal is something want to do further in the
future which means something to achieve but requires more time and planning that
usually takes up to more than 12 months. (Anonymous, MyMnCareers, 2017) Meanwhile
the medium term goal is the thing that you want to achieve in between both term goals
usually requires a time period of minimum 3 months but no longer than 12 months. As for
my short term goal it is to complete my current semester modules and score 60-65 percent
of marks in the final for each module ending of current semester is on the 5th of March.
For my medium term goal, I have set for myself a target of achieving a second upper class
to graduate for my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing which is in another two more
semesters and will end in December 2017. Lastly, as for my long term goal, after
graduation I am targeting to reach the position of Marketing Executive in my working
place. Therefore I will start with doing relevant marketing job to achieve it. For example,
working as a marketing manager first and slowly reach the target and be the Marketing
Executive of the company.

1.3 Learning Style
David Kolb had published his model of learning styles in 1984 which he had developed
his learning style inventory. According to him, experiential learning theory works on two
levels which is a four stage cycle of learning (refer to figure 1) and four separate learning
styles. Kolb’s theory is much concerned with the learner’s internal cognitive processes.
“Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of
experience.” (Kolb, 1984, p.38) When a person progresses through a cycle of four
stages, effective learning can be seen. Kolb’s learning theory (1974) sets out four distinct
learning styles, which are based on a four stage learning cycle. He also explains that
different people prefers different learning styles. (McLeod, 2013) For example, two
different people go to the zoo at the same time to study about animals. Individual A
would learn the facts of the animals through reading the description board about the
animals while individual B learns through observation and interactions happening in the
zoo and the animals. Different factors will influence the different preferred styles such as
social environment, educational experiences, or the basic cognitive structure of the
individual.
2.0 Learning Styles
2.1 My Learning Styles
After taking the personal test of learning styles for this subject, I have the result of
Tactile learner. Tactile also known as Kinesthetic learners, learns things through
experiencing or doing things due to they are the type of learner to identify movement,
and may very fast be bored than other students during a lecture of a class. (Flemming,
2016) Tactile learners when can manipulate information in concrete formats concentrate
the best and is reinforced in understanding with the self-correcting resources.
(Anonymous, ILSA, 2010) Based on the test that I have taken to determine the kind of
learner I am, it is said that a tactile learner learns by touching and doing and they
understands and remember things by physical movement preferably to touch, move,
build or draw this that they have learnt. (Anonymous, Education Planner, 2011) For
Example, every time I study for my exam preparation, I study through writing out the
notes because when I write it is easier for me to memorize rather than reading and I will
be able to understand. Another example is during my lecture class, I will jot down notes
while the lecturer is talking and if not I will easily forget. Whenever I want to study, I
will keep rewriting the notes again and again to memorize them.

2.2 Action plan
As a tactile learner, I always have the mind set of I can be better and there is always
room for improvement. Thus, I would like to make a change and try studying in a group
with my fellow friends rather than studying alone. Although rewriting the notes can help
me study and memorize the notes, I sometimes will face difficulties and is at
disadvantage because I am stuck on a question and can’t understand the question. I have
no one to discuss and would waste a lot of time finding the answer and solve the
problem. Therefore, I would like to try a different study method which is to study with
my fellow friends so that when I had any problems I can ask them for help and also
exchange notes to understand better. Other than studying with my friends though I will
still jot down notes during the discussion with my fellow friends, I will also try to use a
different way to memorize the tons of notes for my final exams. For example, rather than
keep rewriting the notes over and over again to memorize, I will make my notes more
interesting and to do that I will use different colors of pens to write and instead of writing
neatly on a piece of paper, I am going to make my notes colorful and in a mind map or
interactive notes. By making my notes as interesting as possible, it can help me
remember the notes in a more easy way in conjunction and also help me to be a better
tactile learner.

3.0 Analysis of personal strengths and weakness
As stated above, Marketing Executive is my ambition and in order to achieve it, I need to
improve and find out my strength and weakness. I have found a job description of
Marketing Executive and according to the job description given, I think my strength is
that I have a very good attitude and is independent. The reason is requires such criteria is
because to lead a team, one will have to have a good attitude and patience because being
at the top, if you were not to set a good example, how are your subordinate to follow and
respect you. As for my weakness, I am not a self-confident person and is very afraid to
take risks. For example, whenever being asked to take risk such as being asked to do
something with no guarantee result, I will not do it no matter how many percentage of
success rate. I will never try if it is not a 100% of guaranteed result.

3.1 Strength
According to the test given, my personality style is Investigative and Artistic. My
strength is that I have an ambitious mind and also is adventurous. As a person with very
big ambition, I like to dream and always dream big. I always had dream to open a big
well known successful company and at the same time have lots of money and power to
organize and plan activities. I am also a very friendly person. I like to make friends and is
very socialize. I always like to meet new people and be friends with them. Last but not
least, I am a very adventurous person due to I am always full of curiosity. Always in my
mind there will be a why and how. When something attracts my attention, I will
automatically find out about the things and will keep wanting to know more about it to
fulfill the curiosity in my mind which always asking myself how and why the thing is
happening or can be happened.
3.2 Weakness
My weakness is always and all the time no self-confidence. I am always lack of
confidence in everything I do. For example, when I were to be suggested by my friends
to be a group leader, I will reject it because I have no confidence to lead the team and
scare to have make them disappointed and cant lead them. Also, I will never be the first
to do things due to I am scared that I will do wrong resulting in putting my group
members into trouble or make trouble to them. I will need to improve this weakness and
by giving out more speech or try to be a group leader for once might help solve my
weakness. I should try and lead my members to overcome the lacking confidence
problem though I would need more support from the group members and also most
importantly cooperation. I hope they can help me and let me overcome this weakness.
