A sports-related concussion could sideline a person’s life.

return to play without knowing if their brain injury has fully recovered.

An independent testing organization trained in the use of the computerized neuropsychological ImPACT™ Test for both baseline (pre-injury) and post-injury testing. We conduct testing, starting with children age 11 (5th Grade) through high school. Adult athletes and “weekend warriors” are also welcomed. We provide office-based individual baseline testing, and group testing through our mobile testing facilities. We affiliate with doctors who are certified by ImPACT™ and will provide testing information to them upon request. Our programs include: the aforementioned ImPACT™ baseline and post-injury testing, concussion-injury education and information about the proper management of concussions, including safe return to play decisions for athletes.

what is a

a concussion produces

metabolic injury
rather than

anatomic injury to the brain

In other words, following a concussion there is a temporary disruption of energy utilization in the brain that does not appear to produce permanent injury in the vast majority of cases. However, research also suggests that repeated injury, particularly during the recovery period, may result in more severe and, in some cases, life-threatening injury.

why is it important to

understand, prevent and treat concussions?
The Center’s mission is to substantially reduce occurrences of Post-Concussion Syndrome and Second Impact Syndrome (SIS), a condition that most often occurs in athletes under 21 years of age. Such injuries, which are all too common, can result in brain swelling, permanent brain damage and, even, death.

• The concussion problem in football and other contact sports is far more serious than anybody wants to believe; it’s time to do something about it. • Kids die preventable deaths every season from second impact syndrome. • High school/college players with as few as two concussions can develop immediate and permanent cognitive impairment. • The consequences of concussions in children can be far worse than in adults. • Over 90% of concussions go undiagnosed and untreated, putting every player at greater risk for more permanent damage and even death. • Parents/coaches need to teach young athletes that a concussion ALWAYS means they are injured, not merely hurt. – Quotes from Head Games by Christopher Nowinski (edited for space) ImPACT is sophisticated research-based software that helps clinicians evaluate recovery following concussion. It evaluates and documents multiple aspects of neurocognitive functioning including memory, brain processing speed, reaction time and post-concussive symptoms, and provides a userfriendly injury documentation system that facilitates the tracking injuries from the field through the recovery process. – David G.
