Nabin Duthraj #10 Math One hour

Grade six/ Imperial units

Unit Overview
Main Idea (Claim) Summative Assessment
Measuring/Converting imperial units
(Length, volume, and Mass/Weight to
different units)

Lesson: Measurement/Conversion

Guiding Questions Objectives (know/understand/do/value)

How do we measure the length of The student will be able to
something (house)? Identify imperial units
What are the imperial units of measuring Solve/convert imperial unit (small unit to
length, mass, and volume? big unit)
How to convert one unit to another?
Time Instructional Procedures and Strategies
1 Beginning the Lesson
Minutes Teacher will greet the students!
The teacher will tell the objective that we well learn about
measurement/converting imperial units.
49
Minutes Developing the Lesson
Brainstorming (how do you measure house)
Teacher will ask students what do you know about imperial units, and let students
speak.
Teacher tell and show conversion tables: (Conversion table is down below)

Example:-

1 foot = 12 inches, 1 yard = 3 feet and 1 mile = 1760 yards.

1. Convert 6 yards into feet.

Here,
1 yard = 3 feet
Or,6 yards multiply by 3
The answer is 18

2. 10560 ft to mile?
Here,
Miles = feet divide by 5,280
Or, 10560 divide by 5280
Nabin Duthraj #10 Math One hour
Grade six/ Imperial units

Or the answer is 2 mile.

Teacher will handout the worksheet to the students and students will practice.
Teacher will show how to convert one unit to another like, gallon, quarts, pints,
cup, fluid ounce, ton, and pound.
1. 6qt = ________ gal _______ qt?
- 6qt = 1 gal 2 quarts
Teacher will handout the worksheet and have students practice.
Teacher will show how to convert metric to imperial units.
- Convert 500 kg to pound.
- Kg x 2 + 10% = lb (formula)
- 500kg x 2 = 1000 +100 = 1100 lb.
Teacher will ask students to convert kg to lb.
Teacher will go around students and check they have understood or not.
Teacher will help students if they are not doing right.

10
Minutes
Closing the Lesson
Teacher will review the class.
Teacher will ask students to check their answer.

Formative Assessment Differentiation

Teacher will check for the understanding Teacher will go around the students to
check their understanding.
Teacher will use whiteboard so that the
students can make clear connection and
understand the way to solve units
conversion.
Teacher will also use some visual effects
so that students can really know and
understand the matter.

Biblical Framework
- We speak many languages because God confused our language (Genesis 11:7). Yet, we
have many types of measurement and units just like we have many different languages.
