ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION TEST

ABSTRACT
The basis of achievement motivation is a persons motives to achieves or what is
called achievement motive, the need to achieves is the spring board of the achievement
motivation. The achievement motives drive an individual to strives to gain mastery of difficult
and challenging situation in the pursuit of excellence. It is a type of social motivation and
appears to be a widely generalized level of aspiration, aiming at excellence in all under
taken actively. It is not just a desire to achieves only but implies a striving to achieve a
standard of excellence in actions.

INTRODUCTION
Achievement motivation is the desire to accomplish tasks and meet standards of
excellence. It is ones aspiration to do better, to achieve unique accomplishment to complete
with a standard of excellence, and to involve oneself with long term achievement goals.

miotive. The achievement motives drive an individual to strives to gain mastery of difficult
and challenging situation in the pursuit of excellence. It is a type of social motivation and
appears to be a widely generalized level of aspiration, aiming at excellence in all under taken
actively. It is not just a desire to archieves only but implies a striving to achieve a standard of
excellence in actions.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The main significance of Achievement motivation lies in the fact that it serves as fuel
to activate entrepreneurs to exert more and higher level of efforts to achieve something
important to them. Here the apt saying of Indias famous entrepreneur Shahanas Hussain
seems pertinent to appreciate the significance of Achievement motivation.
The significance of Achievement Motivation are as follows:
It is an essential ingredient and hallmark of entrepreneurship development leading to
industrial and economic development.
This serves the major sources of the entrepreneurial supply.
This is a psychological construct that keeps entrepreneurs activated towards their
goals.
Being inner drive, it is significant for the people for all walks of life be entrepreneurs,
managers, leaders, social workers and so on.
This also serves as one of the effective inventions for organizational development and
in turn, national development.
The significance of achievement motivation in essence can be summed up by quoting
Abraham Lincolns apt statement:Always remember in your mind that your own resolution
to succeed matters the most that anyone thing.
CHARACTERISTICS OF ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION
It is manifested only when the individual perceives performances as instrumental to a
sense of personal accomplishment.
It is conditioned by ones early learning, experiences and subsequent learning.
It involves an exacted self esteem and self image.
The achievement motivation scale was constructed and standardized in 1996. Dr.
Shah Beena and published by Agra psychological research cell, Agra, based on the forced
choice technique. The following four factor of need essential for factor of need are essential
for Achievement motivation scale.
Need for academic success.
Need for vocational achievement.
Need for social achievement.
Need for skill achievement.
The aim is a three point scale. Each statement is followed by three alternative
responses. The alternative is arranged in the order of ones inclination forward. Achievement
in the areas academic, vocational, social context and skills. Weightage 1, 2, and 3 are
respectively awarded for alternative a,b,c of questions. Thus this study was undertaken to
comparative the order all achievement motivation of the IX A standard of the Mount Carmel
G.H.SS, Kanjikuzhy.
ANALYSIS
As part of the practical work of 202 learning and teaching. An achievement
motivation test on student was conducted during our school induction programme. The main
aim of the test was to compare the achievement motivation of the student in different
categories like need for academic success, need for vocational achievement, need for social
development and need for skill achievement.
The study was like a survey among the students of standard IX of Mount Carmel
G.H.S. S.For this purpose I had used the achievement motivational scale .Questionaire
prepared by Dr. Shah Beena .On the beginning of the test the students are given a
instruction that they have to select the most suitable answers for every statement and their
tick against the selected responses for the personal data collection the students are asked
to file their names , age , date of birth , caste , religion , class and division, sex ,
urban/rural/semiurban area and name of the school.
INTERPRETATION
The main aim of test was to compare the achievement motivation of the student in
different categories like need for academic success, need for educational achievement, need
for social achievement and need for skill achievement. In regarding with the response of the
students a bar gram was drawn. A bar gram is a chart that ask either horizontal / vertical
bases to show comparison in different categories on axis(x) of the graph shows the specific
categories being compared and other access represent a descrete value. Through the diagram
it is easy to observe the result of the achievement motivation of the students in different
categories.
The following table and bar graph shows the difference of the achievement motivation of
different categories.

CONCLUSION
Achievement motivation is often correlated with actual behavior. Thus, this study shows that
achievement motivation places an important role in case of achievement. Therefore the
teachers and parents should adopt new and innovative methods of teaching by which
achievement motivation can be developed and their by facilitating achievement in the subject.
It is an important tool to understand them better and became able to deal with their strength
and weaknesses.
