the owner wanted to retire, her parents
got an idea. They asked me to join them

no, she says. Unfortunately we had to
shut our doors three years ago as the
costs of running a bricks and mortar

stop us we decided to develop our
online brand, and it has thrived!
Sammy and her family are currently
searching for another premises to store

enjoy the freedom that comes from
owning an online shop. I like being my

Running an online shop takes a lot of
work, but Sammy hasnt stopped crafting.
In fact, its been a huge part in forming
her media presence. I make stuff all the
time, she confesses. Luckily its a big

I run with my best friend. Creating things
for myself is a little more tricky, but I
always seem to make time. I do like to

While Sammy has been crafting for
years, her other hobby developed only
a few years ago. It wasnt until my
husband and I got married in 2008 that
we started photography and really fell in
love with it. We ended up shooting lots
of our friends weddings, music events

Sammy decided to put her new s
photography skills to use when they
set up the shop website four years go.
It just made sense to do it myself. I
already had all the equipment and knew
how I wanted things to look. Im still
learning, though every hobby is an
educational journey I suppose.
The blog, website and Instagram
account are packed with an array of
gorgeous crafty images. Theyve certainly
helped to attract and connect with
crafters of all ages, especially the younger
ones. I love that so many of them are
taking up sewing and dressmaking, she
says. Ive been waiting for years for
a new generation to realise how amazing
making your own stuff can be. Im so
happy that sewing is having its moment
right now. Its about time that more
people got their machines out and
started stitching!

CAMILLA SAYS... Pricing is one of the hardest things to
get right. There are different formulas that can give you an

too. One of the most popular pricing methods is:
(Labour costs + time making costs) x 2 = base price
Base price x 2 = retail price
Its very easy to undersell your work (and yourself!) by pricing

JULIE & WENDY
Crafty Beggars presenters
Julie Peasgood and Wendy
Turner-Webster have a spring
in their step as they embark
on series four of Crafty
Beggars In The House!
Its a monumental point for the crafty duo theyve
been on air for an entire year (we cant believe it
either!) and are now on their fourth series. Its on
good authority that the line-up of wise creative guests
is just as good this series, if not dare say better.
And what a season for a new beginning; the beautiful,
fresh plant life all around is such an inspiration for
crafters, and with Mothers Day and Easter coming up,
were on the edges of our seats waiting to see what
goodies they have in store for us. Stick the kettle on,
get your supplies out and get making, because series
four is coming from a brand new location thats as
attractive and fresh as spring itself!

WENDY SAYS
Although Ive always been partial to a profound quote
or two, Ive found myself working them into a lot of my
crafting projects lately. Theyre great for adding focus,
or can even work well as the whole point of the piece.
Recently, I made two garden themed items with quotes
and to celebrate spring Id like to share them with you.
