Grade Level: Katie Jones Content Area: Algebra 8th-9th grade Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Glogster Standards Addressed: Solving systems of equations MGSE9-12.A.CED.3 Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret data points as possible (i.e. a solution) or not possible (i.e. a non-solution) under the established constraints. MGSE9-12.A.REI.5 Show and explain why the elimination method works to solve a system of two- variable equations. MGSE9-12.A.REI.6 Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (e.g., with graphs), focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:
Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Description of how to implement in the class: This assignment would be given as a project/ homework grade. I would teach them about systems of equations and then build a glogster for them to review at home to review the content. Then As a project grade I would have them create their own unique glogster to help them explore the content of Systems of equations. They would have to find a real world area that uses systems of equations and then design their page accordingly. They will be instructed to make their page able to share and useful enough to teach another struggling student the content. And it will be required to have at least two methods of solving systems of equations. Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): LoTi level 3. The students are creating with the technology but the information is only surface life useful and it stays inside the classroom. The goal of this activity will mostly be to master the skills of solving systems of equations, and creating a eye-catching, clean representation of them. Description of the sample BBPT file provided: The Glogster attached is one that I would give the students as an example of the Glogster to support their learning process after the first day of learning about solving systems of equations. It would also be their example to build their own off of. The glogster has an embedded video of Khan explaining systems of equations again so that they get the information from multiple sources. It supports several learning styles and helps students review the content beyond the classroom. Other comments about your proposed BBPT Activity: Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination.
