2. Tell students to take out their small whiteboard to do addition.
15 min Developing the Lesson
1. Write down some number within 40 and ask which one is tens and which one is
ones.
2. Write down 27+4=? Ask students to use counting method and remind them that 27
in the mind and 4 use fingers and add. Remind them that this a count on
method/way.
3. Write down 24+3=? Ask students what place number 2 is representing in this
problem (tens or ones), what place 4 is representing in this problem and what
place number 3 is representing in this problem. Remind them this addition without
regrouping.
4. On whiteboard write down the addition problem and solve using cubes.

5. Write down 29+9=? Ask students what place number 2 is representing in this
problem (tens or ones), what place 9 is representing in this problem and what
place number 9 is representing in this problem. Remind them this addition with
regrouping.
