Question 1: (a) Explain in detail with relevant diagrams the Radio Channel Structure. Also
explain Intra MSC handover in GSM system.

(b) What is GPRS? Explain in detail.

Question 2. (a) What is handoff? State the types of handoff used in cellular mobile system.
Explain delayed handoff with suitable diagram.

(b)Write a short note on Mobile Adhoc Networks?

Question 3. (a) Explain in detail the traffic and signalling/control channels in GSM system.
Also further discuss about the logical channel structure.

(b) Explain Wifi and WiMAX in detail?

Question 4. (a) Explain the numbering plan in GSM system with possible scenarios when
National and International call is made from fixed network.

(b) Explain the mobility management in GSM.

Question 5. A total of 33 MHZ bandwidth is allocated to a FDD cellular system with two 25kHz
simplex channels to provide full duplex voice and control channels. Compute the number of
channels available per call if the system uses (i) 4 cell (ii) 7 cell and (iii) 8 cell reuse technique.
Assume 1MHz of spectrum is allocated to control channels. Give a distribution of voice and
control channels.

Question 6. (a) Explain briefly the mapping of GSM layers onto the OSI layers with a neat
diagram.

(b) Write short note on WLL.

Question 7. (a) Draw the block diagram of a cellular system and explain how a cellular
telephone call is made between the landline and the mobile user and when the call is initiated by
the landline customer. Draw suitable timing diagrams.

(b) Discuss in detail various TDMA techniques.
